C100: live feed

Hi All,

Does anyone of you have any experience with doing live feeds through your EOS cameras (via youtube or any other hosting site) if so which type of equipment did you use (as in transmitter)

Not specifically with the C100, but in general, I do. Are you asking about a wireless solution, or wired? Because dependable wireless is very expensive. Wired is easy, though. Are you using Mac or PC?

We use C100s (both mk 1s and 2s) all the time with several live streams each month. We use different models of special computers called Tricasters by newtek to handle all the switching, streaming, etc. To be honest, I'm eager to explore other options as the Tricasters we use vary greatly in dependability. SOme are rock solid and some seem to always have trouble.

But a C100 is just like any other source for a live stream (other cameras, pre-made videos, etc). Once you figure out your workflow (how are you going to switch the show, broadcast it, etc...) then you can easily find an adapter to use a C100 in the mix.

Very true as far as the dependability of the Tricasters! Like drum said, the camera is the least important part of figuring out the workflow and tools for this.

If you are using a Mac, I would recommend one of several Blackmagic capture devices.

One is the Shuttle, which can be in either Thunderbolt or USB 3.0. IMPORTANT NOTE-- the drivers for the USB 3.0 version are really limited on compatibility on Windows computer models. Like, they only specify a handful of motherboards that it works with, and I think most of those are now outdated. I have read where someone has used the USB version with a MacBook Pro. This person had a three camera switching setup with two of the Thunderbolt models, and one USB 3.0 model, going into one MacBook Pro. No Tricaster needed, which is a pretty awesome setup. I have the Thunderbolt Shuttle. I would recommend it overall, but with one potentially major caveat. You have to be indoors/ climate controlled, or if outside, it has to be cool. The device gets pretty warm, so if you try to use it outside from spring through fall (that's going by Georgia climate standards), it will overheat and will not operate correctly.

The UltraStudio Express and Mini Recorder and two more Thunderbolt options.

If you're working on a PC or Mac desktop with open PCI-e slots, this is a good option.

In regard to the above PCI-e options, there's also this device by Magma, that lets you add up to three PCI-e cards to any computer with Thunderbolt (that includes a laptop). So you could put three Decklink cards in it. They are pricy, though.

I wish I could offer more options on devices to use with Windows laptops, but it's not as clear cut.

For software, I'm currently playing with Wirecast (the free Play version) on both Mac and PC. I ultimately want to build a new system to replace our Tricaster TC100 (that's the original model) using the Livestream Studio software. Actually, I'd like to get one of their turnkey systems, but building comes in around $2,500 (incl. software), while their least expensive turnkey option is $4,000 and can't do HD streaming.

Thank you soo much Brandon and Drumm, those were some awesome tips. You guys are just awesome
I will look into these and get back if I have anymore questions or concerns
Thanks again
