Lion, Final Cut Pro X, P2

Before, my work flow would require me to send the clips into P2CMS then Log and Transfer in the old Final Cut Pro when I was in Snow Leopard.

I’ve recently moved to Lion, and Final Cut Pro X. Should I continue to use P2CMS or is there an alternative, or is direct-to-FCPX the way to go now?

I ask because I want a proper way to import without much risk. My previous method really didn’t have much risk and I want to continue that.

A week ago, I connected the camera (HPX170) directly to the computer and imported a few files into FCPX directly but some didn’t make it through and error’d out. I freaked so that’s the main reason I ask. I have some crucial video on my P2 cards right now so I want to the best method.

If there’s a sticky already on this, can someone please direct me and I will lock this thread.
 
Can't speak for the new FCP import. As clanky as the Panny software is, it does verify your imports which is worth something.

I have an iMac with a 2 TB external hard drive.

My FCP X has all of its files on the ext HD.

This is what I currently do when I load files from my HPX 170 camera:

1 turn off hard drive (computer is still on)
2 attach firewire 800 cable from camera (turned off) to ext HD (which is also turned off).
3 turn on camera, get into PC mode
4 turn on hard drive

This gets the camera mounted onto the computer, then I open FCP X and import. Works fine, but I just want to know if any of these steps might damage anything.
 
Actually, that brings up another questions I have. If I do make the mistake and mount the P2 card on a Mac while forgetting to write protect, how can I check to see if the card is okay (has files put on it by the Mac, etc)?
