Lilliput Monitor with HMC150?

Hi guys
I am looking to buy my first field monitor on a budget. Does the Lilliput 668 show over/under exposure
peaking levels as does the Marshall V-lcd 70XP. I saw a video demo of the Marshall and its functions
are awesome. I can't afford the Marshall! Can anyone suggest a monitor that shows peaking levels etc

Wow, what a beast!

As an aside, why wouldnt you / how could I mount the monitor right to the 1/4 mount on top of the camera? I was looking at the 8.9" Manhattan with panny battery mount.

You can use a shoe mount facing down on the top middle mount to hang a monitor... I am looking into the 3" swivel mount to maybe list on the website as an accessory...

Just put in an order today for their new 7" HD70HP with HDMI and component imputs with external power supplied by Sony batteries...will post results/shipping times once I receive it.

I ordered on Friday, and the monitor arrived Tuesday - not too shabby for coming from the other side of the planet!

The first thing I noticed was that the monitor is the same as the 668GL.

The difference is that my model, the HD70HP does not come with the internal 2200mAH battery. I was able to open up the back, and there's a slot for it, but its not included.

Instead, the only difference is that my model came with an adapter, charger, and 2 hefty "Sony" external batteries.

I chose not to purchase an HDMI cable yet, as the HMC150 comes with a component cable and the BNC adapters needed to connect with the monitor.

I was very pleased with the image quality, considering the price paid. One of my friends at school uses a comparable Marshall monitor for his 5D, and the Lilliput puts out an image that is just as nice, and you get more with the Lilliput for cheaper. Definitely great for pulling focus and beats only having the smaller LCD on the side of the camera. I haven't ran tests with battery life yet, but I'm sure they'll last a good few hours.

guys

ive read through all this thread and many others....

what is it about the 619 that makes it the ONE to get in this price range? There seems to be numerous lilliput with very similar features and specifications.... why this one over the 668GL for just a little more?

or this one looks more like it

LILLIPUT HD70H 7'' HD

is it just the 619 over this for price?

So this particular forum is pretty old, and I don't think they had the 668GL back then or the HD70H. So that is why everyone was recommending the 619. Now that the 668 is out, defintely go with that one. the HD70H is the same as the 668 except the 668 comes with an internal rechargable battery (supposed to last 3 hrs) and the HD70H comes with external batteries. So you can decide which you would rather, but I would highly recommend the 668, I love mine. One reason to go with the 668 is because of its versitility for other needs. You can used HDMI, Component, or Composite and plug anything you'd ever want to into it. I use mine as more than just a camera monitor.

BTW to help you out, I research the very best deal on this monitor recently, and here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370426971676&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:US:1123 This is an ebay listing for a guy in California who is a reseller. He ships it out right away, and here is what made it a great deal. He has a "buy it now" or "make an offer". I made an offer for $190.00 and he took it. I was charged tax, but if you aren't in CA, then you will get it for just $200 shipped. I think that is much cheaper than the coollcd and other websites.

Hey, im actually based in the UK but thanks for the tip!

As far as the monitors go...3 hours just does not sound like enough time to me? When I shoot I often shoot all day, so the monitor would most definitely run out of power...

If im needing longer than that Should I be going to for HD70H with battery packs, is that the best option? And whats the advantage of the song batteries over panasonic? Would make more sense to me to be using the same batteries on the camera as for the monitor, but obviously im missing something?

Cheers

I would recommend going with the HD70H if you want a longer run time. I purchased 2 Sony batteries with mine, each are supposed to last over 4 hours (potentially 10, but I doubt it). You can go with the Panasonic adapter if you have the batteries (it only works with models D28S and D54S). It's not the same type that works with the HMC150 though.

The other option is to use power. Since it is just a monitor, you don't need to worry about how clean the power is and since this is a 7inch monitor, most likely you aren't going hand held unless you have one of madhmc50's Halo rigs. So that means you'll probably somewhat stationary in most situations and thus able to plug into power. That is my plan anyway. I am very tight on money so I had to go as cheap as possible, so the 3 hour battery and monitor for $200 was best for me.

Oh, BTW, most of the Ebayers selling this are in China and they are cheaper than the websites also...they also ship anywhere. So this should work well for you. I believe they have various options also if you decide to go with the sony or panny batteries

appreciated guys :)

Well the only thing might be if you don't want to use this on the shoe mount. When I have my hmc150 on a tripod and standing behind the sticks, it feels like the monitor is a little too far away from me. So I ended up getting an articulating arm. I got one cheap that was 20 inches, but it is a bit overkill and adds a bit more weight than my 503hdv tripod can easily handle so I have to balance the arms a bit more carefully to get the camera to balance properly. I do really like having the articulating arm. You could easily get away with a 7-10 inch and as long as it has 1/4 inch on both sides or ability to do it. I got one with a female 1/4 side and a female 3/8 inch side. If you end up getting something like that, let me know and I can tell you how to very inexpensively make it work.

Im gonna go for the 11" arm I think, should offer plenty of movement!

The website seems unclear... does this monitor take a 'standard' HDMNI input, or the mini? It says something about both on the site but, im a little unclear as to exactly what it means. Obviously the hmc151 has a standard hmdi output.

Yep, your list looks great. Same things I purchased, just different imputs...I didn't get the articulating arm, I felt that the screen was big enough that being positioned a few inches up from the camera LCD didn't make a difference, but you'll be good with the arm as well.

The monitor takes a standard HDMI...both the HMC150 and the screen have the same size HDMI port. You'll be fine.
