lighting help: night dialogue

hey everyone. so I'm filming a short suspense/murder mystery for a local film festival and I need some advice on how to light a specific sequence. the sequence is a dialogue between two characters who will be sitting outside at night. the location is pretty well lit (it's a college campus student center) but I am worried that there might not be quite enough light to shoot it well - however, I am also worried that using extra lighting to light the scene will make it look unnatural, and in this sequence I really want to stress that the two characters are out there talking in the middle of the night.

what would you guys suggest as far as lighting this dialogue sequence? the sequence will be pretty formulaic: mostly two shots, and a few closeups at emotional points in the dialogue. like I said, I'm just worried that shining a light on the table the characters are sitting at will be too bright. thanks for your help in advance.

I just realized this should have gone in the lighting forum, but I didn't see it when I was posting - my bad!

I would shoot it day for night. I am still learning to light properly so I just shoot all my night shots during the day and make it look like night. It looks pretty dayum good too. Just a thought. But the lighting guys I am sure could answer that correctly.
