Light weight fast shooting tripod recommendation?

I was shooting last night with this big bogen tripod. To difficult to use for fast set-ups with a GH-1 and a simple m43 lens.

I am looking for a non-fluid head tripod. Light, and fastest to set-up shoot, and move. Any suggestions?

Also, my quick release plate is uge, and must be removed to access battery. Any small suggestions for QR?

I'll still have a wluid head pod, but, for last nights street filming, I need something easy and fast, maybe a ball head.

Thanks.

i literary got tired of lugging about my sturdy calumet tripod with manfrotto videohead.

wanted something super quick, easy, small and light so went for the little manfrotto tripod, it perfect for in your backpack or in a little string cord sack bag over your shoulder.

the pistol grip is plastic and feels pretty light but it works a treat for the money.

it has 2 modes, video and photo... i accept its not a video head and just use it as a static photo head.

its cheap over in the UK so if your in the US it will be even cheaper id think.

I have been using the Matthews M25 as a relatively lightweight run-and-gun or even B cam tripod and like it quite a bit. It's pretty sturdy and compact (given that it still has a fairly good "fluid" head). I guess the advantage with the M25 is that it's nice enough that if you need to do a decent pan or tilt in a pinch you can get it while still having the easy and fast set up.

Here it is at B and H for $168

Ball heads aren't really ideal for filming, unless you're doing locked off shots. Even then, you will need a level of some kind.

If you are really going light, there's always the Gorilla Pod!

yeah the ball head on the manfrotto claims to support photos and video hahaa, its a stills tripod.

it is a great tripod for travel tho, i cycle my bmx everywhere so it works for my needs.

but yeah as AdrianF said, its only good for locked off shooting. dont be fooled by it claiming to have a video mode  it does but its laughable and useless for video.

I agree with you RE the Manfrotto 785b. It's a nice tripod for the money but that head is a bit nutty.

My OCD thing with tripods is stability. I want things anchored, period. So I put up with the eccentricities of an old Tiltall. $75 on eBay and it's by far the most rock-solid tripod for the dough, plus I can use it to hammer railroad spikes all day long and then go shoot with it in the evening. I love it. The old tilt and pan head is not a modern fluid video job but it's better than a ball. I'm okay with it. It's not as lightweight as my friend's Velbon but it also doesn't bounce and sway like it either.
