Light Tripod & Tele Lens

Hey there,

I got the velbon video head and so far it is quiete smooth and for a beginner Iam set with it. In addition I use my tripod which I have for photography already, cullmann 522 magnesit (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cullmann-Ma...M1OC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303808268&sr=1-1). The weight of the tripod is around like a carbon tripod and it is more comfortable to carry it around, doing short hikes or even daytrips is possible and quiete enjoyable (1,8 kg without head around).

I noticed that it isnt that stable especially using manual focus when I use already my 18-105 Nikkor, would be probably similar if you would use the 14-140 from panasonic. Manual focusing is almost impossible with full tele since it starts to shake slightly/vibrates when you touch the lens and move the focus ring (I got the 2,50 follow focus idea the plastic band from kitchen accesoires) , even more of course if you use ETC. I can imagine that if you would use a stronger tele lens it would be even worse.
So what is your advice here, if you want to go light and using a tele or the mentioned lenses ? Just avoiding to pull focus and panning, of course a more heavy tripod would do it but its out of question for daytrips outdoor ?

The 14-140mm Panasonic has Mega OIS

If you want to hand hold & shoot video, this is the lense you want for your all rounder.

Not cheap, not fast but do a search here on what it can & can't do....it's the ducks nuts ( silent AF, OIS )

If you want to go long get a 100-300mm Panasonic... has OIS you can shoot video at the 300mm with a light tripod no problem (hand held if you are stable & keep the clips short)

I did this massive post & my connection crashed, so I too busy to retype it.

Any nikon, canon etc lense with GH1 / 2 requires a adaptor & has no OIS or auto focus.

Use a 35mm flash bracket attached to the bottom of your camera as a poor mans DSLR rig when using hand held.

Best tip of all, it's all here somewhere in the forums, use the search up top right.
