What's the life expectancy of a DVX? I realize this is going to be dependent on your usage level but I'm still curious. Has anyone had their DVX for 2-3+ years and it still works?

Just curious...

The DVX has only existed for just over two years now (the very first ones were released in October of 2003). I've had mine almost that long, and it's still going strong.

with heavy usage but good maintenance, any camera is easily 5-6 years. even more. i fear the DVX will run into problems depending on how many times it got wet and stuff but it should last a while... so it seems. c'mon it's electronics... all the same. this one just shoots nice pictures!!!

DOH! Sorry, typo. DVX100 came out in October 2002. DVX100A came out in December 2003.

I think my film school is still shooting with a couple vx1000's, that' sucks sh*t.

I teach at a college and we use dvxs for our cinematography, film-making courses. So far they hold up to all types of users...and sometimes they aren't too friendly to them...but the cameras keep on chugging away. IMHO, Like us, they will last long past their technical relevance given proper care.

I think ...if u have taken good care of the buttons etc and other appendiges like the LCD of the camera....and if u change the heads after every 1000 hrs (if one really does)....the elctronic circuit of the camera should not 'wear out' even in 15  years...NO?

I mean the camera should remain acceptabley usable so long.

Is the life expectancy not measured in hours of usage.
What's the world record in usage measureded in hours registered on the heads? My DVX100 has only taken just over a hundred.

I think the 'hour reading' ususally refers to the usage or life of the camera head....not the camera itself. The thread basically refers to the 'life expectancy' of the camera itself.

Right now I'm having the worst time getting my dvx 100a back from repair. I never used it in bad or dirty conditions. I've had it about 10 months and about 2 months ago I was cleaning the lens and noticed 2 specs of dirt inside the lens element. 1 just under the glass the other on the zoom part. You could see it in the LCD and on play back, so I called different authorized Pany service centers and found that the one(EC to be exact) said they would have it on the bench in 2 days and fixed and shipped to me within a week, unless they had to order a new lens then it would be about 2 weeks longer.
Well its been 2 months and still no camera,I just reciently called the eastern division of Pany and they said that they would ship me out a loner if they didn't hear from EC by Tues....
I hope no one has to go through the problems that i've had to go thru...
It makes me second guess getting another dvx knowing the projects I've lost not to mention the money, and the initial $4000 for the camera thats sittin on someone's shelf collecting dust.....

I've run mine (AE) for 200 hours and it's as good as new. I even feel it's getting better, but hey, I guess that's just me. Braaaaag!

No, damn it! I demand PERFECTION!!!!!

But I digress. I had a problem with one of the CCDs in my camera when I first got it. Since it's been fixed I've had no problems with it. So mine's about 9 months strong.
 
Let's revive and update this thread! So how many hours have people clocked on their dvxs now?

I got my DVX100A early 2006, when it got around 526 hours on the heads, I got the dreaded PSD NG error, my footages were jumpy. luckily, i got a friend who worked from Panasonic before who knows how to fix it, until it got around (just last week) 975 hours, I got another (my second) PSD NG error, then again it was fixed. Now my screen (LCD screen) on my DVX jitters, but when i check my recorded footage, it doesn't affect.....Regarding the footage, color and quality, I could not complain...The best yet... As they say. The DVX still ROCKS! I agree!
 
940 hours on mine and still counting. no problem at all except for some glitches that occur from times to times

will probably sell it for dirt cheap to a friend of mine that is getting into camera.
