Libec LS 38 tripod

I got no idea where to post this...

I want to buy a tripod, and I might be getting this one if I find one at a good price (used).
The question I have is concerning the 75mm ball. I heard that it is not the standard size and I may have problems. If it were 100mm, I would be good.
but, since its 75mm, I may have problems if I want to attach it on something.
Is this true?

Secondly, I wanted to know if my Redrock Shoulder Mount will fit on the tripod.

Some Baby Sachtlers are also 75mm. For a small camera like a DSLR even with a matte box works fine and very light. Buy a use Sachtler and you will be satisfied what ever the size ball. When you want to change you might even make money on the resale.

75mm is not a problem for small cameras. I think that Libec 38 is one of the better inexpensive tripods. Sachtler is the best, but you'll pay for it. It's best to buy a really good tripod because it will last far longer than your cameras.

I can't answer your questions specifically however I bought a LS38 from another dvxuser and have been quite satisfied with the purchase.

No it is not. Both 75mm and 100mm are industry standard size for tripod heads(bowl size). In general 100mm heads are designed to carry heavier loads (above 25 pounds), so choose a tripod depending on the load capacity first.

Yes it will. Under the Redrock Shoulder mount there are 1/4" and 3/8" screw holes to accommodate both 75mm and 100mm tripod heads. If you get the Libec38 you'd be using the the 1/4" hole to attach the tripod plate.

OK, thanks.

But, what I meant by the Shoulder Mount attaching to the tripod was.. the R.R. shoulder mounts have a build in dove tail - if thats the name, so, I wanted to know if this will slide into the fluid head.

From redrock micro:
Shoulder pad with integrated dovetail for tripod mounting (integrated dovetail is bogen 3272 compatible. other quick release plates can be mounted on bottom of shoulderpad via 1/4" or 3/8" mounting holes)
So the answer is no. You'll have to use the 1/4" mounting hole.
