Letus35 Extreme

if you look at the "raw" hvx grabs, look at the high detial parts. the 500+ line areas. instead of blurring to grey, like a native HD pixel chip would, there is a large patch of moire pattern, then grey... That seems to be a side effect of getting HD res from pixel shift it seems ( adam wilt article poited thsi out). it goes from descernable detial DIRECTLY to moire, very little greying out. The LEtus/SGpro/m2/brevis all seem to soften the image sufficiently that a majority of the detial is retained, but now its softened just enough to reduce the moire pattern.....

Well.... it doesnt moire... thats good. it seems to hold the resolution right to the point where it "breaks". and that just means its seeing as much as it can see. Thats pretty good. ITs about resolution loss less, like the other high end adapters. SG, Brevis etc...

looks interesting. expensive though. And with no rails. I would still go for the sgpro unless the footage is incredible.

Well i imagine it will look like all the other high end adapter footage, just inverted. The real prize here is that it inverts the image, WHILE remaining as light efficient as other non flipped models.

So basically the Economy is the same as the Extreme, but with a plastic body?

I'm definitely opting for the Economy at the moment. I'm a student, so I can justify another $200 on top of the FE...but another $300 on top of that for a metal body? Not so sure...

Hm. It did according to LetusDirect.com (but I think he just copied and pasted the specs from the Extreme).

Sorry if this has been answered - what does the custom condenser do again?

Doh! Sorry about that. I'll fix that ASAP.

The Economy does NOT come with the custom condenser. It also has a plastic body and the batteries are external like they are on the Flip. Other components are the same as the Extreme.

I'm assuming he means the Letus35 FE with the older GG element. The new GG element going into the adapters is much finer and should not exhibit noticeable grain at that shutter speed. Again, the second I get my demo unit in, I'll do whatever testing is requested.

In this case i will order it because the grain was the only con.

.

it looks like an amazing piece of equipment, and i'm sure the footage will be extraordinary, but the pricepoint (which is expected to climb) makes me really wonder what makes it 400-700 dollars better than a brevis unit?

1/2 stop of light
flips the image
both vibrating adapters will suffer the same problems when it comes to higher shutter speeds.
i believe the brevis will lose a bit more than 1/2 a stop once the flip unit is added.

but DAMN, is the extreme actually 5 pounds? I am worried that once i attach that, with a lens ( between 24 - 135mm ) to my canon XH A1, it will exceed the weight limit of my glidecam 4000 pro with smooth shooter.

Well, considering that it's the same price as a Brevis unit, what makes me really wonder is why people think it's more expensive?

actually, concidering i let go of my 35mm adapter about a year ago, my patience has been very good! I didnt jump on the brevis or the sgpro, but waited because i knew this was just like any evolving technology. time brings changes, and why jump the gun.

but now the gun is loaded and im trigger happy, so footy footy footy. ( yay, i feel like a teen again )
however, i am slightly concerned about the weight issue. i badly want to use it with my 4000 pro.

I have the Letus FE and I love it but now I'm torn about getting the extreme/economy. The 1/2 stop could really help out in indoor scenes. Ayyyyy!!!! Maybe I'll wait until the next generation of Letus when it will be able to download music off the internet, check email, and stabilize your shots with an added light gain of 2 stops.

heh, well what im contemplating right now is this.

should there be any additions, or changes in the future for the letus, the changes would be added light gain, perhaps weight and the look of it. It seems as though the vibrating adapters will always suffer slightly from the high shutter speeds, which is not something that will change anytime soon. If the mini35 suffers from it at that price.... .....

So any change that will come in the near future is not worth waiting for in my opinion, but perhaps i am being ignorant of what else can be changed. I have been following these adapters sicne the beginning and i feel strongly about these ideal changes, but to me, not worth the wait. It seems as though now is hte point where it will become more and more difficult to chose because they are approaching their peak point of performance. What are your thoughts on this?
