Letus Flip with the A1 - Quick and dirty test

My lovely daughter assisted :dankk2:

I would have liked to light her face a little more but I just used what was available.

My Letus actually was damaged in the mail and the mirror was loose so I'm sending it back to Quyen for repair/replacement. You'll see a side effect of that damage with some vignetting towards the right side of the frame. This will not be on the fixed one.

First shot is a 28mm Nikon f2.8
After that I used a 50mm Nikon f1.8
Last few shots are with a 100mm Nikon f2.8

The sharpness of this adapter is better than the Letus I was using on my XLH1 which surprised me.

See for yourself:

Looks great, Disjecta. What preset did you use for this? Were you controlling the light on the lenses or on camera? Do you use an external monitor (which)?

That looked pretty damn good for an imperfect(cuz of the mail order damage) cheaper adapter. I'm gonna order me a letus. What 's it like using it with the a1? Since it flips do you only use the a1's lcd for focus with at or are you using an external monitor?

Unless I absolutely had no other choice, I would not shoot with an adapter without the aid of an external monitor. I actually shot this out my office window and had the camera hooked up to a 42" plasma. Normally, I would use my Marshall 7" external monitor.

What makes or breaks the look of any 35mm adapter is critical focus. Even if it's off the slightest amount it turns to mush.

Rafa, I was using a combination of the Nikon lens and the XHA1 to control exposure, depended on the shot.

I used my PANALOOK preset for this test.

Thanks for the info, Disjecta. I absolutely agree with you. Monitoring is crucial when using 35mm adapters. I'm actually still looking for a nice external monitor that doesn't cost more than the adapter it self. I tried a couple but the resulution was so horrendous that it was useless. Which marshall are you using? Is it working well for you?

Unfortunately the Marshall I use is more than the cost of the Letus but I simply couldn't pull accurate focus without it. I've seen what HD looks like on SD external monitors and it's pretty crappy.

My monitor: V-R70P-HDA

Has anyone tried using one of those $30 Hoodman 2x LCD magnifiers instead of a monitor? If I'm not mistaken, this would allow you to use the peaking and focus assist functions directly off the LCD (which are disabled on an external monitor, correct?). Given the A1's fairly high-res LCD, might this setup actually be good enough for focusing with a 35mm adapter?

Of course it doesn't flip the image, but can anyone comment on the feasibility of doing this with an adapter that does flip?
