Let's Tell a Story.........

So let's try again from the beginning and try this time:

"Water! Who has water?"

Wow, I was just wanting to have some fun......

So I will start.

"Cleaning out my attic with the water I suddenly found, I came across a photo that took me back to a dark place in my life. I had forgotten about this picture, taken at the height of a secret war I was involved in. The memories began to flood back as I remembered all of my buddies in the picture. Where were they now? Most of us kind of drifted apart after we were demobilized. Sure, an occasional Christmas card, but more often than not, the only reminder of our time together was the letter we all get twice a year. It always tells us we are bound by the Official Secrets Act, and that we cannot talk about anything that happened on that mission. Of course they don't actually say what we can't talk about, but when you get one of those letters, you know why and what you cannot talk about. We all know, if you talk, there will be no jail or fines. You just disappear with no trace. Secrets are taken deadly serious in our line of work."

Take it up from here, add a paragraph, not just a line.

" I can tell you this much, that the mission involved flying over Macho Grande... None of us will ever get over Macho Grande... "

"It wasn't that our Saab Scania 90 wasn't capable but the oil leaking from the wings and the rain leaking through the cracked cockpit windows gave us no comfort.
We pulled a sharp 35 degree turn along the tree tops into an opening towards a mud and rock covered runway. This was our last stop."

I know you may think it's silly that six blind men flew from around the world just to hook up at a donut shop. To be honest, the shop's donuts are stale as Hell. But it was our place. Most of us had a hard time reintegrating ourselves into society after our last mission. We may be blind, but with our sonar detection abilities we could tell if a kid stuck his tongue out at us. I use to "accidentally" whack the kid on the head with my cane until Noforn ordered me not to. Only time I disobeyed an order. Noforn went missing months ago. So we all decided to hook up early this year. Seemed like our squad was disappearing off one by one. We finally land on the mud and rock covered runway. I walk down the steps of the plane and I recognized a voice: "Hey buddy!" I stood perfectly still. That's sounded like Johnny, but he's been missing... can't think. Can't talk. Something's over my mouth. As I fall asleep I hear, "It's me, John, it's going to be okay. It's going to be all over soon."

"...we may not have had eyes, but our senses had been... heightened. And I had this strange feeling people were peering at us, manipulating us like puppets- our life was in their hands.
I felt like this in battle, and now I felt it back home, but in a even more unusual, peculiar way... like our lives had become some sort of... bad script."

we woke up in an old safe-house by the bay, i could smell the corrosion. that place is rotting just like us, but we can't die yet, we have a new mission. we can't let the enemy get away. john planned the whole thing, we got into the city undetected, ..unseen. we disappeared just like john did before. john briefed us on his mission. we were in shock, we could not believe who the target was.

p.s.: if this was a nolan batman villain, the plan would have involved drugging the entire city, probably using the girl scout cookie program this time around.

The target. Damn, this was going to be a tough one. John really knew how to set em' up. But this target was new.

We had to engage a bunch of so called 'Mall Ninja's' in the city. Mall Ninjas were kind of like us, except we airsoft freaks like to prance around in forests. But Mall Ninja's were like urban airsoft geeks; a whole different kind of tactic was called for.

John gave us some documentation to read up on, to get an idea what we were up against in the city. He told us to read this: http://lonelymachines.org/mall-ninjas/

This was going to be our toughest mission yet. I could almost taste the little plastic bb airsoft pellets. And god only knows; I love the smell of plastic in the morning....

So putting it together so far: (For those following the rules, that is)

"Water! Who has water?"

A little odd, but intriguing.......... Let's keep it going.

'I could almost taste the little plastic bb airsoft pellets". This was our online code. We made it sound like a child's game on a children's website where we were communicating, interacting with real parents. It was a perfect front. Who would look there to uncover our actions?
In reality we were in battle again. We have suppressed the enemy fire and am engaging the target.

And the enemy was firing back sporadically. We liked to pretend it was real by inventing code-words, inventing fronts, and pseudonyms. People could laugh at us if they wanted. And they did; all the time actually. But this was real. You never knew just how real it was until you were smacked full in the face by a round of plastic pellets. That stuff hurt worse than buggery; and lets be honest, most airsofters' know all about that.

The enemy was suppressed so we advanced in a disorderly and shambling manner that befit our (lack of) training and (lack of) fitness. Everyone was screaming orders simultaneously; we were all Sergeants it seems. This is it. Chaos. The fog of war-games.

I lept over a fallen tree, and a fat bearded guy who lived with his mother turned to face me, eyes wide as saucers. Our eyes locked. We both raised our weapons. I had a M14 carbine in each hand and I started unloading both of them at him. He had some cheap Chinese knock-off AKS with plastic trimmings (God I love the smell of plastic), and he started unloading at me. Thank god I was wearing XXXL size body armor otherwise those pellets would have really stung. And lets be honest; you've never really lived until you've ...errr... not felt the pain of pellets through body armor...or something. Anyway.

"Christ above!" I shouted. "You're dead already! Lie down you geek!"

But he was changing his magazine, loading another batch of rounds into his rifle. "No way you freaking nerd. I got you first! You lie down!"

We both started shooting at each other again at point blank range. Oh man. This could be a long one....

The sun came up earlier than I was ready for. 3 am and I was literally shocked out of my dream. I loved playing paintball as a kid. Out in the woods, stalking your prey, outsmarting them then taking them out. It wasn't about killing. We never killed any animals or people ofcourse. It was about out smarting the enemy. That's what war is about. My thoughts of childhood soon gave way to my immediate reality. I was hungry, my pants were soiled and I was covered in ants and flys. My only concern was my mission. It was time.

People never understood the hardships us operators faced. Very little food, if any, sips of water, taking care of bodily functions where you lay. It was just part of the job. Many people think relieving yourself while in a stationary position is a disgusting thing, and I agree, but it is part of the job, when you are "in-position and eyes-on", but you drive on and carry out the task at hand. Just part of the job requiremnts. It was only natural that my mind floated back to my easy teenage days, playing paintball, airsoft, and hide and seek......restrooms a short walk away. Now, it was for real and not a game. As I re-acquired my sight picture through the scope, a single thought kept running through my mind. "Dammit, I wish I hadn't eaten that curry plate" the night before. There's only so many cat-holes you can dig in a single position before it gets extremely complicated. You try and eat a low-fiber diet, but man, that spicy yellow curry smelled so good yesterday.......... Damn my culinary desires.

We approached the target. Stone building, 25 feet high walls. 4 Towers. We were on the south east side. One guard in each tower with radios and search lights. 4 walking the SE perimeter in staggering pairs. Flashlights and radios. The front door was a huge mass of stone. No way in without being caught. We needed a plan.
We needed 4 snipers timed for the guards, ideally. We also needed 2 people in close in case the snipers missed, to compensate. And snipers on the guard towers as a last resort if all else fails.
We did not want to take out the towers unless we had to. We were here to rescue someone causing as little attention as possible.

I had a sense that something had just gone horribly wrong. We've lost someone.

"The shot came as a surprise to the whole team. The overwatch team was pretty well dug in and monitoring the area. As we quietly checked in, one call sign was absent. Whiskey Golf 5. The new guy assigned to overwatch on the left flank. Figures. He was always trying to explain how airsoft and paintball was exactly the same as combat. We all laughed at his trying to draw a direct parallel. But he passed his quals to be assigned to this team. How.....we couldn't figure that out. But you take what you are given. I never knew his real name, he had just transfered in, right before our deployment. In the after action report, everyone said the shot came from the direction of his position, potentially "close-action". We didn't want to actually say it out loud or to the investigators. But we all knew. Some people cannot handle the stress of combat, they forget the most basic training. It is a good thing it was a "down-range" situation, because there would be no "CSI-type investigation" to dissect the actual event. It would begin and end with what we said. They would never even look for the 5.56 round from his own M4. But we knew, with just a glance, what happened. When we went to verify his status, everyone noticed how his hand was gripping the barrel, arms flexed. A simple mistake made by any newbie. You never pull a rifle towards you by the barrel. All it takes is a stick, or a root, (as was in this case) to get caught in the trigger guard. The M4 requires very little pressure on the trigger to drop the hammer. I guess they never discussed this in airsoft training and he plain forgot what his real instructors tried to drill into him. We made sure his family would not know he killed himself with an act of negligence. We all agreed that the shot came from somewhere near his location and prepped the body properly. Meaning, on our exfil, the two claymores placed against his body would obliterate all identification and any trace that we were there.

John finally briefed his team on the target. Someone the American people love to hate. I thought maybe we were going to target the Secretary of State, Hilary herself. John had let it slip it was a woman who was the target, not a man. I've never killed a woman before. But this mission came from the highest echelons of the government. Our target... one of the Kardasians....

The sun came up earlier than I was ready for. 3 AM and I was literally shocked out of my dream. Damn, I fell asleep watching The Kardasians again. I was hungry and I had soiled my pants. In the dream I thought I had done that because I was a sniper living out a pathetic male fantasy; lying in ditches waiting to kill people through a scope, and pooping my pants in the name of my God and Country. I must have let go in my sleep. Many people think relieving yourself in a stationary position is a disgusting thing; and I agree. But hey; for Kim I'm willing to go the extra mile.
So the target was one of the Kardasians? Yeah; well I was willing to set my sights on her and unload a couple of rounds in her direction. I opened my copy of FHM, and took aim. "Target sighted captain! Permission to shoot?" Steady soldier...you don't want to slot the target prematurely...
