Let's talk glass: Lenses for the AF100!

What is the 14-140 you guys are talking about? Will it come with the camera? I thought it was just the body.

Also, I've been lurking occasionally for a while, but this is my first post. Hello everyone, look forward to actually interacting with you.

First, HOLY CRAP! Forums, AAaaahhhh.

21 pages of information mixed with guesses and hearsay. Some make a nice post that is a sticky with a list of actual lenses tested on the GH1 with pictures.

C-Mount lenses, wow, there are some interesting bits of video out there with the GH1.

Do you want shallow depth of field you can't move in or want to shoot in low light? I did with my 7D so I bought the infamous Rokkor f/1.2. This is an amazing lens.

Just a note, if you are going to consider shooting any sort of drama or long form anything that you want to look good be wary of choosing your lenses. Some lenses give a considerable change in hue/tint and contrast.

My advice from experience, if you want shallow depth of field go old school. Find the still lens that have greater than 270 degrees of rotation and get a decent follow focus.

If you want to take on the wireless remote game be prepared to invest $2500. It is worth every penny too. You can change any still lens to having 360 degree rotation. If it is accurate enough you can mark out your distance markings on different discs to match individual lenses.

Pany lenses that only open up to f/4, hmmm. May be worth it if the autofocus works without hunting to much.

Whatever the case may be I just tossed in my order for the AF100. So we will see...

Well, 11 pages of posts for me (20 posts per page)...

Did anyone recommend the Olympus zooms? 12-60, 14-54?

Sounds like a good cost x performance ratio...

Make a sticky with all the good links that show examples of lenses on a m4/3. For example:

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82380

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84920

Upon checking out the 2nd link there are a couple other links there that will connect you to more examples.

If no sticky in the next few days, users with links to examples can be PM'd to me and I will just start a new thread with the links posted in the 1st post, or that could be done here to, whatever works...

I was initially so confused when i watched the video explaining that the micro 4/3rds system was different because they brought the imaging element closer to the glass, making me feel like it would give us the same crop as an aps-c sensor.

That would be incorrect right? So the crop is 2X and not 1.5X.

Will the AF100 allow for nikon lens adapters so we can use our nikon F manual lenses? This camera is beginning to sound like a wet dream.

sure any lens that was adaptable with the GH1 will be working the same way on AF100. I have Nikon glass and an adapter and it works fine on the GH1 so I am sure it will on the AF100. In the meantime there are adapters for almost all possible lenses and mtf so its definately a wide open party. the only drawback is : no zoom motors....that takes it out of the ENG market...

I think it'll take a hobbyist a short while to construct something. I know RC servos and power is pretty darn cheap for what it does. I also love the Tekkeon and with that versatility, almost anything would be function.

Yes, maybe one of the 35 adapter companies will start selling servo zoom motors, or maybe Canon, Fuji, or Leica will wake-up and smell the coffee and build a servo zoom lense.

Gotta say---> The last thing I want on this camera is a Sevo Zoom lens...

Never use the servo on the HVX's we own, and when we rent a RED or (not so much anymore) an Arri: you need the precise control of a Preston MicroForce, or just a hand on the barrel.

Just me - I'm kind of old school, learned film moving gear and sandbags apprenticing for a long time before I moved up. Now anyone with $800. and a video camera can be a 'Filmaker'.
