Let's talk batteries for the AF100...

Just got my 2 Hong Kong batteries (3 weeks, like they say, and well padded in bubble wrap), but since I have 2 HPX/DVX chargers, I won't be charging them til the camera's delivered.
I thought they were 5400mAh, but the label says 6600mAh!!!
And they're BIG!
Did I just get a free extra 1200mAh? Guess we'll see.

For $37 each, free shipping (B&H wants $139 for the Pana 5400), it's hard to go wrong (hopefully).
One of my HPX batts is a Pearstone (B&H generic) and doesn't snap on quite like the Pana, but does seat adequately and lasts just as well as the Pana.

Hopefully these will do the same.

My two came in as well, and I have to wait to charge them too :) They also say 6600mAh. Took three weeks. Let's hope they work well.

I've used a lot of these CHEAP ebay batteries on many camcorders. Still, don't want to chance anything.

Anything wrong with using them instead of Panasonic ones?

I only bought from this seller based on all the reviews I found at the time that others had with them. All of them were positive. I'm usually VERY skeptical when it comes to batteries, but, with most things, every once in awhile someone does a good third party version. Once I get my camera, I'll post here my findings with using them.

My experience with the cheap ebay batteries is this: I got an HVX200 when it first came out and it came with one battery, I then bought 2 Specialized Communication batteries, a couple weeks later I bought 2 DVXUSER batteries, and finally a couple weeks after that bought 2 cheap batteries off of ebay. So I had a total of 7 batteries made by 4 different companies all purchased within a month of one another. Both cheap batteries kicked the bucket around the one year mark, the 2 DVXUSER batteries lasted around 2 years before they died for good, and 5 years later both Specialized Communication batteries and my Panasonic battery are still going strong.

I saw these recommended somewhere around here, think I'm going to give them a try, as they come from a US reseller, though they're probably identical to the ebay ones. If they last for a couple of years, then its worth it. In this range, don't expect to own a camera for 5 years anyhow :)

I chose to go with the actual Panasonic batteries myself. Ordered them and already received them. Even charged them and have them ready to go for when the camera arrives. I'd rather be safe than sorry with the batteries being reliable and giving correct remaining battery power on the camera display.

I have the Switronix GP-S v mount plate on a Zacuto red plate. How do I approach getting the camera and monitor(smallHD DP1x) power for hand held situation?
Try to use the Vmount battery as a balance.

New to the mounting battery scene...trying to pick up some knowledges here.
Thanks

I received this email from SWIT to my query about an AF100 battery with power tap:

S-8BG6 compatible with Panasonic VW-VBG6 will be available in about 1 month. It will have a pole output and LED power indicator like S-8972, and capacity is 37.4Wh. I'll inform you of the detailed information as soon as possible.

This could be very useful for out board recorders that can run on 7V, ditto monitors and lights.

Hi,

I was wondering one thing..
as groveChuck posted in this Thread he is going to build his own Anton Bauer Gold Mount..

Now.. I have a Gold Mount for the XL-H1 i dont use anymore.. The XL-H1 takes 7.4 Volt..
What about just replacing the Canon Bracket with a Panasonic Bracket like groveChuck suggested..

How stupid or brilliant is that? :) .. Would definitly save some money....or is there more to it than i naivly think?

Hi,

Since it turns out to be a longer wait for the new Anton Bauer Gold Mount than i thought. Especially here in Austria... and next week there will be long shooting days i probably cant manage with my 2 Panasonic Batterys i tend to go the selfmade way.

I checked the Voltage on my XL-H1 Gold Mount and it turns out to be 7,6 Volt. Although the canon only officially takes 7,2. So what do you think. Will the AF 101 also manage 7,6 Volts although it only officially takes 7,2 Volts.. I am no Electrician so before i try it out maybe you can help me on this?

cheers

Just got this link in my email from Specialized Communications. Their HVX200/HPX170 batteries were just as good if not better than the Panasonic ones, so I bet these ones are also top quality.

I don't know if this was mentioned before here but the IDX batteries don't display runtimes (or at least the two I have didn't the first time they were used.) Just in case anyone cares, I thought I'd add it to the pot. They last about 3.5 hours each.

I do like the double charger.

Theyre available now? Might have to order a couple and test them out. If you guys are a bit tentative about ordering these, spec comm do have a great reputation of supporting their customers in this forum.

I just received a Switronix Pro-X Adapter XP-DV-VBG for my V-Lock batteries and the AF102.

It doesn't work at all.

I rang Panasonic today and they told me that the camera will only talk to a battery it recognises as a Panasonic.

I guess I can butcher it and the power adapter for the charger, join them and see if that works. Pain in the arse though.

I'm looking at the IDX P-V257 V-mount plate. Has anybody used this? It's got a 12V D-Tap output as well as second output that will switch to either a 7.3V or 5V output. For all of us who already own V-mount batteries, this sounds like it might be a great solution to power the AF100 and other accessories.

Hey, does anyone know of a good multi-charger for AF100 batteries? They take quite a while to charge and when you have back-to-back-to-back shooting days, it's hard to keep up.
