Let's discuss Canon's crippling?

On that, Barry is fully right. You should take a few months before when 5D Mark II was launched, price released on mid-September 2008:

The variation with the dollar IIRC when I checked that September 17 was 105 (one of my other daily jobs for those who don't know how I multiply the budgets I manage is currency trading), around 81 in the beginning of this month. Here you can see the daily variation though:

That is then, reported to now, about 30% variation.
Canon as big company it is, respected the price-committed when Yen became stronger.

Does this mean they would never cripple a product in order to protect their own higher segment because they know YOU will make your own money with their product and they want a bigger part of the cake?

Sure not! :engel017:

To be exact the rate today is 82.27 & on 31st March 2009 it was 97.27. While currency fluctuations do account for some of the difference 15% down does not amount to $1000.
No, but the difference in MSRP from introduction to four years later certainly would. What I'm saying is: in terms of yen, the 5dm3 is about the same as the 5dm2 was when it was introduced. The 5d2 had subsequent price drops as it became long in the tooth, but when introduced, it was (according to Samuel H) 285,000 yen, and the 5d mark iii today is about 285,000 yen.

Q: Secondary OLPF?
A: It has two of them. This is just the outer one that doubles as the self cleaning plate. An IR cut filter and 1st OLPF are fixed on the sensor assembly. Not removed here.
