Let the Right One In

I saw this film at the Toronto After Dark Film Fest and I must say that I would consider it to be the best modern vampire movie that I have seen.

Must see film!

(I did a search, but nothing came up, however I find it odd that this thread doesn't exist yet)

I loved this film. Very enjoyable throughout, with beautiful cinematography.

I think I agree with deedive about the ending. I'll have to let it marinate more before I make up my mind, but at the moment I'm feeling that it would have served the story better to end during the snow over black background that showed up before the pool scene.

Just watched it, a little slow at time, but beautiful, simply beautiful and great film.

POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD
I love the ending, I think it couldn't been better. After all, it does reveal the whole thing about a girl and her guardian from the very beggining...you just need to wonder yourself how many times that circling process has turned out.
END SPOILER

It was a bit better than I expected, but I suspect the aspects I enjoyed were from the book anyways, not from the movie. As a movie, it was terrible.

Basically the director didn't have a clue. She doesn't understand how to direct her actors, she doesn't know what looks good as a special effect, and whomever wrote it (I'm assuming the director) doesn't know what "natural dialogue" means. The girl I've seen in other things, and she was never bad, but in this she was terrible. Frankly I blame the writing and the director.

The reveal of the fact that this guy is a vampire took soo friggin long when we knew already. It was half an hour of her searching, finding things about "cold ones" (beer?), blood suckers, etc. Then the scene in the forest (wtf? Why did she walk in there? How did he know to follow her?) when she says

"your skin is cold, you do this, you're like this, your eyes change, you're a..."
"say it"
"you're a..."
"say it"
Insert crazy movement shots of them standing there
"Vampire"

*Cue vampire going crazy, with cheesy jump effects and pulling out tree, and him somehow describing her to heroin*

Wow... talk about one of the worst scenes I've ever seen in a long time.

It got better near the end. The dialogue didn't, but at least things picked up. It's a story that could have been done A LOT better, but the director didn't have a clue.

That didn't stop all the girls from screaming at the top of their lungs when the movie started and Edward walked in...

I know it's from the book, but that "glowing skin" effect and idea was just terrible. "This is the skin of a killer"... hmm, looks like you smothered glitter all over yourself...

All in all, there will obviously be a sequal... stupid hollywood...

I think you accidently stumbled in from the "Twilight" thread. This is the thread for "Let the right one in"

Confused the hell out of me. :)

LOL, that is some funny stuff right there, wrong movie bro.

Let the Right One In was pretty good, not sure I totally dig the ending but as others have said I'll try to let it sink in. If anyone wants to elaborate on what they thought of the ending and why it fit I'd be interested to know.

About the ending.

SPOILER AHED

Why I liked the ending?
Because, in short, it concludes the cycle of girl and her previous guardian from the film (the one who thrown acid on his face).

Here, we have young boy who is being molested in school, and at the end she saves him. This is the part when he decides to go with her wherever she goes and that's pretty much obvious from the last scene. So lets now FF 20 years ahead-he will still be with her, and wil try to protect her at any cause.

It's logical to conclude that she met her previous 'guardian' also when he was about age of 12. She probably helped him in some way so he like her. He grew up with her and spent his whole life to protect her.
This is obvious because not that he mutilates himself to protect her, he even lets her to drink his blood at the very end of his life, without regreting it at any point.

I think the end points out that her 'guardian' may not be the first one, nor will Oskar be the last.

And I also like how this is given, without flashbacks and additional explanation so anyone can have their little theory. :)

SPOLIER END

Did anyone else think it ended after Eli drove away?

For some reason I felt so certain that that was the end.

And then there was that wicked cool pool scene.

I like your breakdown Mile, thanks for sharing that.

SPOILER

I wonder about the likelihood of an older brother doing that to another 12 year old. Not to mention that fact that a dumpster is set on fire and the only teacher leaves young kids unattended in a pool. Plus all the kids flock out when they see the older brother and the teacher still wouldn't find out whats going on?

I like the theory that since she saved him that he is willing to become her guardian, that would explain his disregard for his mother who has to be freaking out. But really, how far would a 12 year old get being her guardian? Added to the fact that the 12 year old is missing, police have to have be contacted, and he was the last person seen at a brutal triple homicide, so I'm sure his picture is floating around and on the news, how is he going to board a train? Let alone carrying a person in a box. I like that idea of the guardian bookend but things with how it went down just don't seem to jive in my head.

Interesting movie. There were some very cool things about it and it did have excellent cinematography but uh...

*SPOILERS*
I kind of saw it in a different light when I went onto imdb after watching it and everybody was saying that the vampire girl, is actually a castrated boy. I've never read the book but everybody was saying that the book says that he was castrated as some sort of satanic ritual and that was the whole reason for the scar when he/she was getting dressed in Oskar's mom's clothes and the whole saying that he/she isn't a girl.

Like I've said, I haven't read the book and maybe I've fallen prey to some big ruse over on imdb but that's what they're saying over there. If I'm wrong, my bad. I hate to spread misinformation. That being said, I did enjoy the movie. I thought it was well made and it kept my attention throughout. I thought that the cycle of guardians was a really cool and previously overlooked part of the equation and I enjoyed seeing it play out.

I read that too, about she being a castrated boy. I read somewhere her voice was overdubed with more manly one, so what we hear on film actually isn't her voice at all.

Nevertheless, I can't find that affecting the story itself, because it doesn't hold any sexual conotation through film. The book supposedly describes some elements that aren't even shown in film. (such as that ritual and some other things). Maybe book covers whole story slight differently.

Dope dope flick. Enjoyed it very much.

Did not read the whole castrated boy thing, but when I was watching it and saw the shot of Elli getting dressed I thought "wow thats alot of attention that area for no reason" because like someone mentioned the film had no sexual conotation to it. Even though I think Elli is suppose to be a girl in this film if she is supposed to be a he it just makes Elli's situation even sadder then before...

Talk about a messed up. "My first girlfriend was a vampire..." How do you top that?
