Up until this latest generation, the 'American Dream' has always been to own a home. Now I think it's to only have three instead of five roommates in your 800 sq ft apartment and an Instagram account with more than 10 followers. But gear vs. "other stuff" is kind of a catch 22, because you actually make money with gear. Yes, the house is more than likely going to appreciate, but can you afford to buy the house without owning gear to do the work? Let's say you buy(take out a mortgage for) a $250K house and when you decide to move in 5-7 years the houses value has gone up $50K and you've paid it down enough that you walk away with $100K to put towards your next house. Not bad. But say you bought a $50K camera instead and you're billing out $150K-$250K per year or more. There is a happy medium, but buy gear(within reason) first, then get the money rolling in to buy a house.
Haha yes this is true. I think it'll more likely be spreading equipment purchases on either side of a house, decided by priority. The $50K camera will come but it has to get in line just like everybody else!
