C100: Lenses feel loose

Hi,
When I have either my Tamron 17-50 or my Canon 70-200 F4 L attached they feel slightly loose on my 1 month old C100. I can see movement when i apply even the slightest of force - a very small gap appears between the camera mount and the lens mount. I've tested both lenses on my old 550d and they are very firm so I've deduced thats its the EF mount on the camera.

Does anyone else have this issue on their C100? Is it something to be concerned about? :undecided

Thanks,

Drew

Mine is tight as it gets, but I would like to see what you're talking about. Could you upload a video of it for us? I two have the 70-200 f4 (love it. Got it for $175 when a company had a fire sale to downsize a photo dept.) . Anyway, I would like to see what your issue is..

Sorry for the delay. I'm just back from holidays.

I shot this using my 550d so its not the sharpest but it does show you the play there is between the lenses and the C100 body. As I said its happening on the C100 with both lenses I own but not on my 550d. The first time I noticed it I "felt" the looseness rather than saw it if you know what I mean. At first I thought it was the zoom rings but on closer inspection I saw it was the mounts.

thanks.

I don't have that on my camera. I suggest you take it in to where you bought it and see if they can replace. If not, then take it to a Canon center for a fix under warranty... Bummer dude.

That seems normal with the spring loaded mount type like that.
Remember- this is not positive locking mount and if you push hard enough you overcome the spring tension and move the lens.
As long as it returns to the original position on its own after you take your hands of it the mount is fine...
I would try the 550D again- mine is the same as the video...
Truly however I have to push the lens pretty hard to do that.
Definitely in normal use the lens would not move...

Optitek, thanks for your post. I have to apply a lot more force to the 550d to create the same issue. As you say though, the lenses do return to the normal position after pressure is applied. Its not staying in the loose position. I also tried a friends 5D Mk2 an it is worse than my C100! So maybe its normal... :undecided

CookingHusband, unfortunately the Canon repair centre is in the UK, and I'm in Northern Ireland so I have to ship it to them. This is causing me pain as the couriers are asking nearly £100 to ship it with insurance to cover loss. I'm asking Canon to pay up as my C100 is only 2 months old and if it is an problem, I think they should pay! Strangely I've had no reply from them...

Tbh, I'm thinking of leaving it and using the camera as it is.

Drew,
I'll check mine this afternoon and see if it behaves the same way. I never noticed it. If it does then I think you shouldn't worry too much. Maybe it is a "springy" thing by design? I'll let you know in a bit.

Thanks Marty. I appreciate the help!!

Just by way of update, I got put through to one of the Canon Technicians in the UK repair centre who watched my video and told me that its normal, and that each camera will display a different amount of play and sees this all the time. He also assured me it will cause no problems with the operation of the camera. He kindly compared it to a C100 and a matching 70-200 F4 L lens he had to hand and noted it was the same.

My mind is at peace now thankfully.
