Lense for 7D - Music Videos?

Hi,
Any suggestions on a lense that would work well for music videos?

The shots would mainly consist of singer head, body and full shots at inside and outside locations day and night.

I know i will probably need a few go to lenses, but i am looking for a main workhorse lense that would probably cover me for most scenes until the budget allows for more glass.

I have around £250 for new or used and have been suggested to look at the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 VC lense.

What would you suggest to look at?
 
the Tamron is a good all round budget lens. But do NOT get the VC version. The non VC version is much sharper.
 
What is the difference between the VC and non VC version? Also would you suggest i also buy a Canon Nifty Fifty?
 
Looks great Admir! Great work on the video too.

I'm still undecided on the VC or non VC model... I will be doing 90% video. Would you say stabilisation is more important than sharpness?

I have also read that the VC version is compatible with full frame cameras where the non VC version is not?

yeh thats it. I thought the VC would be important for me when i was just starting out so i bought it...however as i shot more i realized I'm pretty good doing handheld work up to 85mm with my counterbalanced rig. (even without and just using my zfinder) So the VC was not that important to me. Also i was dissatisfied with the softness of the lens. So i sold it and bought the non VC and I love it. Definitely sharper especially wide open.

I believe both the vc and non vc are for APS-C sensor and not full frame.

The nifty fifty is really good glass. very sharp and petty fast lens. However the build quality is very cheap. If u take care of it though, it should take care of you. It'll take you a while to get used the that THIN focus ring with its extremely short focus throw.

this was shot on the VC when I had it. looks good ..to me :) (also black and white enhances apparent sharpness ) but the non VC is sharper and cheaper
