Lensbaby Tilt Transformer

i've wondered about these little lens baby things but i spent a whole night checking out what people are doing with them and i released that viewing the pictures and videos from them actually hurt my eyes and give me a headache.

i mean our eyes either see in focus or all out of focus, i don't think out brains are ment to see effects like that, its not human lol.

they are a cool gadget tho! id still like to experiment with one but probably for a hallucinogenic dream like short movie :o)

The referenced lensbaby doesn't seem to be the 'distort' type. It looks to be an adapter to give you normal lens a 'tilt' cpability. You could then get extreme 'deep focus'.. (sort of the opposite of the 'shallow DoF is all' crowd...

I'm wondering now if there's a micro-4/3 adapter to hang my GH-1 on my Super Cambo 4x5 view camera... not only would I get swing, I'd get tilt, and parallel lens to sensor plane action...

i still think anything that doesn't follow how the naked eye views and sees things as a bit odd, that doesn't mean bad or anything... just odd, it feels like i'am viewing something with a blurry bit in my own eyes and not in the video/photo  my eyes are watering thinking about it hahaa

Well I bought one anyway. I already have a Lensbaby Composer that I love with every optic and accessory for it. This will be just another tool to get images I want.

yeah they are very tempting, especially since they're so cheap. But I also think t/s is incredibly gimmicky and distracting.

i wasn't trying to dissuade you or anything Brian@202020, just thought id mention it as i was wanting to get one for a while but after id been looking at all the examples i found the look didn't suit my eyes too well.

if you can get the feel and look your after perfect. do you use them on video and stills? id be interested to see some samples of the moving picture side of things if you have some test clips you would like to put us for us to see.

id like to see the results

d1rockwild yeah i've wondered what the appeal of tilt shift is having never looked into it properly, i love the micro feel on videos i've seen tho it is a cool effect but i don't know what else it could be used for.

i'm sure theres loads of ways to use it well but as i said i've only had a little glance at examples of it.

I use my Lensbaby Composer mostly for stills, but I have used it for video a few times. Here is a link to a short where some of the scenes where shot with the Composer.

It's not my best work so please don't judge to harshly.

As for tilt shift lenses, i believe the latest Harry Potter film was shot with tilt shifts lenses and it was nominated for an Oscar for it's Cinematography.

checked your short... i like it! i would have liked to have seen the camera angle cut more in the opening scene tho, maybe a close up to break it up a little, the tilt shift can be nice when done subtly like that.

harry potter!!! lol i've never actually seen the films, i did see J.K.Rowling the other day tho, she bought a house not far from where i am.

J.K.Rowling (she even copies the way he wrote his name haha)
J.R.R.Tolkien

My ex girlfriend was obsessed with Harry Potter and made me go. My expectations were low but the cinematography was so good in the end I was glad I saw it. I personally think it should have won the Oscar over Avatar. I mean Avatar was mostly digital. I just don't get how Avatar could win best cinematography.

ooh yeah yeah... my girlfriend made me... hahaa, just kidding i know how it can be.

id think avatar still counts as cinematography, the director still has to follow the same rules and experiences from real life films and such. (apart from the 3 mile high crane shots)

it gets hard time for being mainly CGI, my view is everything/anything is allowed as long as you can tell a story from it. CGI isn't an evil monster lurking over the hill i don't think.

film fans who bash avatar for being that way are probably more than happy to go out and shoot on there film camera's... i mean digital camera's.

what i'm really excited about is when CGI can bring back film stars like clark gable, humphrey bogart and such. (i don't know yet if i find its a morbid/wrong thing to do but i love those guys!)

ps: big squint arnie from terminator salvation excluded haha.

In the Behind The Scenes footage for "Iron Man 2"(2010), there's a sequence where the cinematographer, Matthew Libatique, using a tablet PC, presumably, displaying the camera view for the 3-d model world created for some of the CGI. He moves the tablet, the tablet display moves like the camera view finder, and the virtual camera positions are recorded. So, he is very much 'interactively' setting up the camera motion for the scene, in the virtual CGI created world.

This is essentially the equivalent for motion capture for the CGI created models, and so may be 'smoothed' out, or the like but does show how the CGI world and the Real(tm) world are coming together...

(I'm waiting for someone to explain their attendance at a Harry Potter movie, because their boyfriend has the hots for Dumbledore...)

Back to the subject, FYI guys I just my Lensbaby Tilt Transformer 5 min ago. I'm about to go take it for a spin. I'll post test footage soon.

It is drastically flawed. I'm calling Lensbaby tomorrow. The flange distance is way too short, so it goes way beyond infinity. It's tolerable on my longer lenses, but my shorter lenses are unuseable. I'll let everyone here know how my conversation with them goes.

Just received the replacement and the flange distance is still not perfect but a lot closer. I now think it was worth the money. Stills and/or footage soon.
