Lens stuck on T2i Body

The other day my I was using my T2i with the Canon 50mm f/1.8. When I went to change lenses I couldn't get the 50mm off. Since I've been trying to remove the lens, the outer element of the lens has completely fallen out, ripping the ribbon cord and rendering the lens useless. I'm not even worried about buying a new lens but I don't want to do anything that will tear up the T2i's body. Please help me. I'm shooting a wedding this Saturday. Thanks DVXuser family!

it's not going to be easy to help with the amount of information that you provided

is the lens stuck so that it doesn'r rotate, or it does rotate but then it doesn't come off?

do you have any pictures of it?

(for a start, if you're planning on fighting it with a flat screwdriver or something like that, search for some nice pictures of the mount, in order to make sure you only fight the lens, not the mount)

Slow down.

Is the lens release button being pressed down 100%? Are you holding it down 100% while turning your lens counter-clockwise?

the lens is not stuck. it rotates about 90% but doesn't come out. i'm holding down the release button 100% while turn the lens counter-clockwise. here are some photos:

What does it feel like when it hits that spot with 10% travel room left?

If you rotate it clockwise from that position and shake it, do you hear anything that could be obstructing its path?

It's hard to tell anything from the pictures. Feeling and listening, I think, will be your best ways to gather any more information. If they turn up nothing, I'd take it to a technician. You could trade the broken lens in exchange for its safe removal.

This reminded me of a gun lock box I bought a few weeks ago. Got it in the mail, locked it with the key, and then couldn't unlock it. The manufacturer suggested pressing it together while turning the key. That did the trick.

Try pushing the lens against the body while turning it.

the red dot does not rotate any farther counter-clockwise than what you see above. also, when i rotate CC it feels like the lens sorta of locks into a groove or something. once it reaches this groove i cannot rotate the lens any further.

Is there groove-free travel? Perhaps you avoid that groove by pushing in or pulling out while turning CC in anticipation of it.

Yeah, that looks like you're not rotated enough to disengage the bayonet tangs. There are three of them so it takes 60° of rotation to disengage the mount. It looks like you're rotated over only about 30°. It sounds like the plastic lens mount on the lens is buggered up or maybe a foreign object got between it and the camera lens mount. The good news is the lens mount is metal so a technician can probably remove the lens without damaging the body. You can try to do it yourself by butchering up the lens, but you'll risk getting stuff inside the mirror box and onto the sensor.

the camera's lens mout is metal and the lens mout is plastic, so as a last resort I'd suggest a big cut in the front of the lens and then two plyers to prolong that crack until you reach the lens mount, then take it out in bits; it's just plastic, so it shouldn't be difficult

the problem with this, which may also be what Tim was suggesting, is being careful not to damage the camera body, and also, as Tim said, making sure that you don't throw any little bits inside the camera body (maybe do this with the camera over your head?); so as I said: last resort

the bad news is that I can't think of any other way to get it out

it's not an EF-S lens, so you indeed are missing a big part of the rotation, but looking at my lenses and camera mout I can't see what it is that is obstructing the way

as Jordan said, feel and listen... then look for help... or for the plyers

(edit: actually, being me, I think I'd actually skip the help part; you may be different)
