GH4 Lens Options for the Panasonic GH4

MTF Services also make high grade electronic EF to MFT adapter with IS support (as long as I know RRM doesn't support IS).

True, except that the MFT adapter (~$600) requires a separate control box (~$1200) to adjust aperture on EF lenses. Not really a viable solution IMHO.

Agree, but it is another (great quality) solution for people in the field ;) May not be great solution for you, may not be great for me, but might be great for someone else.

You wrote in the third post, "The Speed Booster also makes your lenses 1 stop faster. This means your lenses will be twice as bright on the GH4 compared to the camera they were originally built for." Not twice as bright.

Actually that's exactly what 1 stop means, since the f-stop ratio scale is logarithmic. You can gain a stop by doubling the ISO or halving the shutter speed

Bad math. To repeat, you equated the additional one stop of light (a logarithmic advance) to, "this means your lenses will be twice as bright." Seeing the problem? And do you think that doubling the ISO parameter value is equivalent similarly to making lenses "twice as bright"?

In the sense that opening up one stop, halving the shutter speed, or doubling ISO each allow twice the light onto the frame, yes. Opening up two stops, quartering shutter speed, or quadrupling ISO would each allow 4x the light onto the frame. At least that's been my understanding since my first photography class.

I'm certain none of these parameters will make any lens actually incandescent, of course, so in that sense it's 'brightness' would be unaffected.

@focuspulling: no I'm not seeing the problem. You need to explain better what YOU see as the the problem. You apparently don't agree that "twice as much light" is equivalent to "twice as bright"? Semantics?

It's amazing how some don't have a clue about focal reducers that give you an extra stop and that a 600mm lens will not show the same image on all size sensors.

I see where there could be some confusion in the "twice as bright" and "twice as much light" comment. If you took two pictures of the same scene at normal dynamic range with 1 stop difference in light between the two of them and asked somebody if one picture was twice as bright as the other, they would say no. "Bright" is generally a subjective term. Kind of like sound. Turn your volume up 3db and ask if the sound is "twice as loud" and the normal person would say no.

Precisely. There's no hiding behind physical science when it comes to the science of proper grammar.

So I wanted to invest in a set of fast (1.4) primes, and use them with a speedbooster. Does anyone actually have a comparison between Canon FD, Nikon, Leica R, Contax Yashica / Zeiss lenses?

Tamron 24-70 + Speed Booster???

Tamron 24-70 + Speed Booster???

Did you try the Tamron 24-70? I'm interested in this lens, but haven't found anyone who has used it with a Speed Booster on the GH cameras.

thanks for the info! i've actually studied john's video of his rig setup many times and got the exact same follow focus based on the video! it's a bummer that it isn't repeatable but hopefully it will allow for smooth rack focuses. i was dead set on getting the lumix 12-35 but it looks like i'll get the oly for sure now, although i'm starting to consider the tamron 24-70 with a speedbooster now as well. panasonic needs to also implement clutched focus rings on their lumix g x line like right now!
