C300: Lens Gear - what do u use guys?

Honestly, you made a bad choice on the follow focus.

The ProPull has a considerable amount of backlash and feels inferior to many cheaper units, I recommend Movcam if you're on a budget, then Cinevate or ARRI in the high-end arena.

Lens gear wise you can take a look at Wide Open Camera universal lens gear.

Changed all my lenses to the zip tie gears a few months ago and never looked back, they're excellent

Yeah, zip tie gears are fantastic for permanent placements.

I also have a Lanparte removable one and like it a lot - very supple and has a tightening mechanism that ensures a snug fit with minimal effort. Use it with equipment that isn't mine, and on my 24-105, which I usually don't use a follow focus with.

All my lenses (all two of them) have Wide Open Camera's wide lens gears and I love them.

Before that I used your run of the mill ebay special like this:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...ens_gear_belt_adjustable_lens_drive_gear.html
But it was made of soft rubber so the teeth flexed and pulled which made trying to stop on your marks hard because you would have to go past it just a little bit to compensate for the flex in the rubber.
With the plastic ones, the teeth don't really flex so its much easier to hit your marks.

I would stay away from the ones that look like this:

Because it messes with the gear ration by widening the diameter of your lens (so a 360* turn on your follow focus may only be like 60* turn on your lens), so a Follow focus with hard stops may not be able to go though the whole focal range without hitting the hard stops prematurely.

I would not agree with you, yes propull has a litle backlash, but its very minimal, and when all is attached i dont get any problems. most of times i dont even notice its backlash! But to be true if some one is going to buy a new Follow Focus - Alphatron its not something u want to buy,- for its price u can buy something much better quality. i got mine kind of cheap - 500$ something,- so for that kind of money its works very well, but the price of the new unit - is very high, its not worth it!

the worst follow focus i ever used - Edelkrone - just a complete junk! HUGE backlash, and when u try to rotate it, u 1st turn it for like several millimeters then u hear a bump sound, and only after that the focus is being rotated....

I have a both the wide open camera zip gears and some Jag35 universal lens gears that use screws to push the gear away from the lens. I use the zip gears on all of my Canon lenses and I will slip the universal lens gears on my old M42 lens in order to increase the width of the focus ring for the follow focus. If you keep a couple of zip ties around and a some small scissors, the zip gears are actually about the quickest way to attach some a gear to the focus or zoom ring. I tried some of those soft rubber gears that use a screw drive to tighten onto the focus ring and found them to be hard to use due to the rubber causing backlash.

They are a precise fit and slip on and are made from hard plastic like Delrin?, The 17-55 is a two piece that snaps together. I would contact them for further info.
