Hey guys (and gals)

I've had my XH-A1 for a couple weeks now, but i'm really interested in purchasing a 35mm or 50mm lens to attach. Can someone tell me exactly what i need to make this happen? I think i need an adapter....M2 adapter?....and then purchase a lens seperately if i understand correctly. Is that all i need?

Technically yes, that is all you need, however to actually be able to shoot useable footage, consider the following.

-35mm adapter- Brevis, M2, SGpro etc
-35mm lenses- 17mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 105mm, 200mm
-Rod support for your adapter, some require it, but ALL NEED IT
-HD monitor, or at least one that supports component input and has a decent resolution and can be flipped 180 degrees.

You most certainly can shoot with just the 35mm adapter and 1 lens, but you will be extremely limited and will not have the greatest results. I personally would not leave the house on a shoot where I knew that I was shooting with a 35mm adapter with out the above and the following

-Mattebox and filters
-follow focus
-shoulder support or good Tripod

thanks, that answered a lot of my questions!

Would you be able to give me a price range off the top of your head of what all that might cost me?

Adapter: ~$1200-1300
Lense: the sky is the limit. The ultra cheap prime lenses usually go for around $50 a piece.
Monitor, battery and & noga arm: $1000-2000

I wish I could have found a monitor, battery and noga arm for $1000. Count on it being $1800-2000, unless you buy a cheap turd like that Ikan or the Varizoom.

Cheap turd like that Ikan or the Varizoom.

If you're talking about the Varizoom TFT monitor then that's obvious; it's composite connection after all. But the Ikan is a different story. It's still really hard right now to get ahold of one; perhaps it's because people like what they see. I'm looking to get one myself as soon as I can afford it. Don't pass judgment on something you haven't seen or used.

wow...ok thanks a million. I guess your only as good as your budget allows!

Not true. Crappy projects are still possible even with millions, Hollywood proves that every Friday night

Youre only as good as you limit yourself, the more you shoot the better you get, practice practice practice!

Check out the LetusFE its only $700

I hope you're right, but I'm basing that on the opinions of a lot of people who used it at NAB. I realize, though, that those reports have been contradictory, but my respected colleagues and friends thought it was cheap and shoddy.

The problem is that not enough people have gotten their hand on these for there to be a general consensus. Right now there's mostly initial impressions and conjectures that can spiral out of control and give this product a bad rap that it might not deserve.

I feel ya, jade...I'll join you in looking forward to extensive reviews when they begin to ship regularly.
