Lens adapters: How tight should the fit be?

I got an OM-to-EOS adapter off eBay to use some old Olympus lenses on a T2i. There is a tiny amount of play between the lens and the adapter, maybe 10-thousandths of an inch, but enough that if you move the lens with your hand, it will make a metallic sound as it shifts position slightly. The fit between the adapter and the camera mount is rock solid, no movement at all. I have not noticed it making a difference in image quality, but then maybe the lens just settles in with gravity while shooting and does not move.

Are these adapters supposed to be absolutely tight fitting on both the lens and camera mount sides? Are they generally machined with close enough tolerances that it's possible to have a tight fit?

Thanks for any advice,

The answer is no. It should be a pretty tight fit all the way through. I had a similar problem with my Mir 24 when I got it. The solution was tightening up one of the tiny screws on the back of the lens. Now it's very solid and no play at all. Hope this helps!
