lens adapters fo xl2

I have an xl2 that i've been using for documentary work with the 20x zoom lens. I am, quite frankly, a novice when it comes to optics, and need advice on the use of lens adapters for manual lenses for an upcoming narrative project. Specifically, what is the advantage of renting a 35mm lens adapter over, say, the eos lens adapter. any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Well, the EOS line will let you see the pores of your subject, while the 35mm adapter, I'm assuming you're referring to the Mini35 or Micro35, will allow you to get the shallow depth of field, which is that technique that makes the blur behind people in movies so you can focus on who's talking. Also, the 35mm adapter is a lot more expensive than the EOS and one lense. If you're doing documentary work, I'd say either stick with what you've got or go with the 35mm adapter, prefereably the Micro35 since it's cheaper ($1000 plus lens vs. $10,000+ plus lens for the Mini35).

The entire subject changes if you're doing nature stuff (like dew on leaves), then the EOS would be recommended. DVInfo.net has a great article on what your footage will look like with the EOS adapter, I believe it is under the XL2 Info section on the main page. Besides nature stuff and possibly a classy vacation video, you don't want the EOS adapter for anything else because the magnification really kills you when shooting regular stuff.
