Length of firewire cable

I am looking to get the longest firewire cable possible for recording HD to dvrack on a laptop.

I am getting right angle connecters for the camera and the laptop - so I can get a 6 pin to 6 pin cable.

What is the longest anyone has had working? will a 30 foot work without a repeater?

thanks

There is a thrad talking about this. I dont know where, but know there it was good. Did you try searching?

I know someone did a test checking the signal on the cable but i was wondering if anyone has successfully used a longer cable

I ran a 60 ft. 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable all the time when I was shooting with the DVX-100 into a laptop using DV Rack. Have not tried it with the HVX, so I don't know if it works just as well or not.

Check with DataVideo. www.datavideo.info
up to 40m without repeater

I only see 20 meter cables...

Also, remember that a DV signal carries a 25mbps signal. A DVCproHD signal carries 100mbps, so something that works for DV might not work for DVCproHD.

We are using the Datavideo repeaters because they are small. They work perfectly, but remember that they have no power input. So, they require power over firewire. This means you need a PC with a 6-pin firewire( not a laptop with a 4pin connector), for power, or yet another repeater with a DC input( this is what we are using)
