Leica lens to 7D??

Hi.

My friend has several Leica lenses and was wondering if its possible to mount them to a 7D using an adapter. I've seen several adapters on line for Leica to Canon EOS, but are there any shortcomings? For example, I know you can mount Canon FD lenses to the 7D, but you lose image resolution and several stops. Is this the case with Leica adapters also?

I believe the registration distance (distance from the mount to the sensor) for Lieca M (rangefinder) lenses is shorter than EOS which doesn't mean you can't adapt them but you will lose the ability to focus out to infinity. This can get really bad when you won't be able to focus out even just a few feet making its use very limited. You may also find adapters with optics that will correct for this but those will degrade image quality, etc, etc.

The same is also true for FD adapters and again, you won't lose any quality with a glass-less adapter except the ability to focus out to infinity.
