GH4 Leeming LUT One – the best LUT for the Panasonic GH4

Cool. More details-- I used a bit of Ice Mint on the office scene, at about 35 percent, to give it a tint. Shot in Cine D internally at your recommended settings. Used a 1.2 4x4 IRND filter outdoors, plus the aforementioned polarizer. I used these glass filters, which are a steal. They are knockoffs of the Tiffen Pro Indie HV IRND filters and are made of Water White glass. They have a very slight green tint, like the Tiffens, but are perfectly neutral if you white balance them. They used to sell on Ebay, can only find them here now -- http://www.dx.com/p/lipa-filter-pro...pl-filter-kit-black-4-x-4-316693#.WG2fybGVRhE
Excellent :) I use the real Tiffens and as you say, as long as you white balance after they are on the lens (which you should always do with any filter), they work very very well!

Thanks for sharing the info!

So it looks like the GH5 will support luts on the display, but they must be in Varicam's .vlt format.

Paul will you provide your luts in that format for those of us who paid for the Leeming Luts?

"Another new feature is the ability to load up Lookup table (LUT) data when using the camera’s display. Up to four sets of LUT data can be stored on a SD card and registered. LUT data must be in the Panasonic .vlt format used by the larger Varicams."

It figures that they would use some sort of non-standard LUT format, instead of the industry's .cube format. I'll do my best to support it if it can be converted. Fingers crossed!

It shouldn't be a big deal, Paul. The cross-conversion is straight-forward.

It is uncanny how well Panny matches their different sensors. For better or worse, the color reproduction on the GH5 looks almost exactly the same as the GH4 ... at least based on Luke Neumann's samples.

Yes, the V-Log L LUT for the GH4 works identically as far as I can tell, barring a color chart in frame. Good news for everyone who already bought my V-Log LUT!

But as always, as soon as I get the camera I'll double check and verify before making an official pronouncement.

Paul,
I spent some time playing with Luke's GH5 V-LOG L footage and various LUT's (Panny's, Luke's, yours, etc.) While Leeming One is definitely the best input LUT for getting the footage ready for matching and creative grading, I still maintain that the gamma curve is a touch off...too dark from midtone to black. (This applies to GH4, as well.) It's not displeasing, it generally looks nice to me, but I do believe it is inaccurate, and I know a goal for Leeming One is to be an accurate input LUT.

I personally use a modified version of your LUT with that tiny curve tweak. If it was just on my footage, I'd chalk it up to me slightly underexposing (I hate blown highlights), but I see it in other's footage as well.

I'll take another look (I'm about to get stuck into a bunch of new cameras to build LUTs, so I'll throw some V-Log tests in there as well while I'm at it) but from memory, the luminance curve was pretty much spot on based on 3D LUT Creator's reference squares.

The nice thing with the GH5 will be having native 10bit 4:2:2 footage to build LUTs from, since they will undoubtedly provide better colour accuracy to refine the LUT from :)

Cheers,

Paul :)

Found a lovely example of Leeming LUT One based footage today by Jahoo Clouseau, and thought it worth sharing :)

He shot ETTR for everything and wisely picked when to occasionally let the whites blow, in an organic way. Great technique!

Enjoy!

Paul :)

I just uploaded a quick V-Log L sample test as someone requested it, so I thought it worth sharing here as well :)

It's just 8bit internal, but shows off the colorimetry quite nicely. Ignore any YouTube artifacts!

Looks good. Hey Paul, I purchased the Leeming Lut One a while back for Cinelke D. I was wondering, is the V-Log L version a separate purchase or should I be able to download that as well?

It's a separate purchase, but I'm happy to send it to you for the difference, ie. 5 EUR.

I'll send you an email with a direct PayPal link to click on, if you want to go ahead with it :)

Cheers,

Paul :)

Hey Paul,

I purchased the Leeming LUT One and recently lost all the data on my machine and didn't back up the LUT. Could you send me another? I could provide the original email you sent the file to as proof of purchase.

Thanks,
Scott

Sent, thanks :)

Just emailed existing clients about the upcoming GH5 LUT pack ;) If you're upgrading, it's well worth your while to check the email.

Coming soon!

Cheers,

Paul :)
