Learn Camera shooting techniques W/XL2

Hi guys, I own a Canon XL2. I need to learn the "Camera Shooting techniques"!
Can anyone help me with this topic PLEASE?

1 suggestion would be to place the tripos plate further back ont eh tripod or add somethign to the back fo the camera to counter balance the front heaviness of the camera
