LEAP (An End Times Feature)

Quite the discussion that's been going on. I do want to clear up that I never said a teaser doesn't have to peak interest. It does. But it certainly doesn't have to include film footage either. I guess to each his own. I personally like to distinguish between teasers and trailers, but whatever floats people's boats. However, understand that when I say I made a teaser for my cast and crew, it is not meant to be viewed with the same critical eye we're used to using as filmmakers.

Moving onward, I started mixing tonight and plan to start some coloring tomorrow. Foley took longer than I thought it would and put me slightly behind, but it was well worth it.

Also, things with imdb are finally getting straightened out. They've split the two films onto two profiles and are sorting out the info. At least I'm finally listed as the director.

It's 230 in the morning and I just finished the basic color correction. This pass was just matching shots and the overall tone. The filmlook part like gamma and such will be done after the initial render. I also just got done with the blooper reel. I have one last bit of ADR tomorrow, then I can finish the mix. I started on the DVD today, so it's ready to have the movie dropped in. The only thing I have left to cut is a trailer and BTS.

It's now two hours later and I cut together a bunch of BTS. It's looking to be similar to "Full Tilt Boogie" in that it's a montage of the actors training, our shooting, interviews, and my production diaries. Currently, the BTS doc is sitting at 70 minutes. Ouch! I may end up needing to talk with discmakers and seeing if they can do a two disc DVD for me.

Not much to say this morning except that the flick is done! Now it's time to let the computer do it's thing for about 14 hours, import to a new Vegas timeline and apply my filmlook, and render again

Oh, so since I don't have a dual layer burner, I don't have the space on the DVD for the full behind the scenes that I planned. What I've done is created a montage of BTS that'll be on the DVD. The interviews and video blogs will be posted to my site over the course of the next week. I included a link at the end of the BTS vid.

I still need to cut the trailer, I'll get to it when the rendering is done. Gotta prioritise!
Wow, six in the morning. I'm going to bed.

Made a few frame level changes and rerecorded the producer commentary. Had some sync drift issues with the commentary that I resolved with time stretching. Currently, the computer is rendering. It's looking like a 12 hour initial render. Gotta like that!

Dual Layer burners are decently cheap now.

I would get one, but I don't have the money for the burner, plus, It costs about $300 more to press the amount of discs we're pressing for our first run.

I was hoping to get the master in the mail tomorrow, but I don't know if that's going to happen... I'm 18 hours into my 30 hour filmlook render. The initial render wasn't bad, only like 10 hours, but this filmlook pass is insane! So glad I'm not using magic bullet! I stuck with Vegas tools, deinterlacing, changing gamma, saturation, color, and adding very light grain. It looks amazing! I'd challenge a normal viewer to figure out what we shot on.

The render is now down to about an hour left. Yay! After that, I need render five ac3 audio tracks (movie track and four commentaries). Each one takes about 20 minutes, then I'll add it all to the DVD and let it do it's thing while I sleep. Hopefully I'll wake up around noon with my finished DVD =)

Also, I'm going to be redesigning my site and start hosting the production journal there, so if anyone wants to keep following my career, you'll know where to look.

Alright, got the DVD burning right now, so that's good. I really want to invest in a DL burner. I had to drop the main movie bitrate down to 4.5 and the extras are sitting around 2. This is for an 81 min flick, 4 commentaries, 12 minute blooper, 20 minute pk how to vid, and 40 min BTS. Hopefully the quality looks okay. For the screenings, I'll burn a movie only disc around 7 or 8 ABR. I ended up having to cut the trailers from the DVD. If the quality isn't where I want it, the bloopers go next, and will be available for free on my site.

Exciting news! We placed and paid for the order of our first run of DVD's today! We decided to go with NationWide Disc. They're a lot less expensive, and I've heard nothing but good things about them. Also, upon adding up the presales today, we were happy to see that we've made back our production budget and then some. So technically, this is a successful indie film. Now that we've recouped our costs, anything else we make is going towards our next film. So that's my big news for the day.

I'm going to try to get to bed because tomorrow I have to send out the master, artwork, and ipr. I also need to start uploading the extra content that didn't fit on the disc to my site.

Got to screen "Leap" at a youth group New Years party-It was a hit! No better critics out there than 40+ teenagers. Definitely helped propel sales =)

In the Leap 2 arena, I finally got a new laptop and now the script is flying along. As always, check out what's going on with Leap 2 at eldirector.ning.com

Looks like I'll finally get the first run of DVD's in the end of this week. The dup house screwed up and I had to send them another master. Ugg.

On the bright side, Rise of the Beast is looking to be a $500,000 film. I'm not going to go into details on where the funding is coming from yet, but I will in time. We'll also be working with a pretty big name actor =)
