Hi all, Just got a c100 (Yay!) and I want to get an lcd viewfinder but I don't like the zacuto zfinder -- way too long to be practical. Has anyone else figured out a work around. I heard that there's a Hoodeye that might work. Any ideas?
There's a bunch of LCD viewfinders that connect via HDMI, if that's what you're asking. Or do you want to use the built in LCD screen with a loupe? The two that do that well are the Zacuto Z-Finder and the Kinotehnik LCDVF BM. Neither are perfect, but they're good, and a lifesaver if you're shooting on a really sunny day.
The EVF's are a good option too, but then it's more money and you have to mount them which means you're getting into rig territory and everything that comes with it. I really like keeping it simple and low profile with the LCDVF for handheld.
I'd see if B&H has them on display so you can see which you prefer.
The question is how do you wish to shoot? Hand held a lot or just on tripod for most of your work? The Hoodeye or other adapter for the back of the camera LCD means that for hand held shooting the camera has to be held out in front of you. Did you purchase any kind of shoulder rig / rod system to use with the camera in hand held mode and / or for mounting mattebox and follow focus type items? Do you want a 3rd party finder that offers focus assist, waveform, HDMI to SDI conversion etc... The answers to these questions, and more should guide to a solution. It may be hard to find the "perfect" solution for this camera but there are very good options to be sure.
Thank you. I do both tripod and handheld but most tripod work is indoors, so I'd need it mostly for handheld. Yes that is the problem with the lcd on the back of the camera. I would need some kind of shoulder rig when outdoors and using hand held. Ah well, i'll keep looking.
