LCD HOOD cover

I use a hoodman with a magnifier and it works ok. Sometimes I have to rearrange but it's not big deal.

Does this hoodman work well outdoors? I usually use my A-1 inside but yesterday we had some real big surf at the ocean so I figured I would take some time off and go shoot some footage of the surfing. I had the camera on a Spiderbrace (nice) but to be honest, in the sun outdoors, I couldn't see anthing helpful on the LCD and even had trouble focusing in the viewfinder. I switched to autofocus and relied on that. The footage was a combination of soft and sharp.

I do own a Varizoom 7 inch LCD and a Glidecam monitor. Wondering if either of those would be helpful outdoors?

Definitely if you have a bigger monitors it'll be better. If you don't care about mobility I'd go with the 7 inch monitor. Otherwise the hoodman does fine outdoors...I've never shot with intense wind though.

I also use the Hoodman with the magnifier. Just make sure you take the magnifier off when you go outside. There's a pretty strong refelction that will make the screen hard to see, but the hood on it's own will work great.

I've been using a little Petrol LCD hood that came with a Petrol camera bag I was using for my old DVX. You can get them at B&H for like $20 I think. It collapses flat to for easy storage. Pretty nice!
