Lav Mic

A Sennheiser EW112 G2 system will work great. The lav is so so but the wireless system is robust. For a wired solution I really like the AT PRO70 which sounds almost exactly as the AT897.

If you want really affordable you can get the ATR-35S which is $30. I have one and it sounds good - far better than $30.

Wow, that is very cheap for a VHF system.

The only lav mic I have is the cheapest FM transmitter you'll ever see. I'm ashamed to even admit that I own it:

It's unbelievably poorly built: the plastic parts have the feeling of the cheapest dollar store toy that could could possibly buy. But it works! It's amazing how well it works. For interviews that are 10 feet or so from the camera the mic picks up all of the frequencies within your normal speaking range and renders them in a very crisp, faithful tone.

Eleven dollars and fifty cents, shipping included. I'm stunned every time I take this thing out and use it.

With apologies for the thrown-up red (why red?) background, the awful lighting and the slightly over-compressed video, you can hear the microphone working here. You can see the placement of the mic on his shirt. 12 bucks. Amazing.
