LASTCLIP.TXT file missing when exporting video files with P2CMS

Greetings!
I'm new into the whole P2 world, and I've read a lot of ways to offload the P2 cards, but I'm not sure which is better. I found a thread by Barry Green where he recommends using P2CMS for Mac. I downloaded the software from Panasonic and installed it. Followed the procedure described by Mr. Green, and everything seems to be fine. But I couldn't help it and checked the files on the exporting directory, and the LASTCLIP.TXT file was missing. Is this a bad thing? The first footage I offloaded to my iMac was through COPY and PASTE ITEM right on the desktop, when I connected my HPX170 through firewire. But then I found out that thread I mentioned, and I decided to follow those instructions for safety. Please help!

I had the same problem and couldn't get anyone to help me with it. I even offered to pay. Still no luck.

I'm going to talk to a moderator about having Barry's sticky removed as it's obviously wrong. There is a lot of bad information out there and we certainly don't need it made into a sticky!

lastclip.txt isn't necessary for importing the footage.

And what exactly is wrong? People have been using that info for years. If it's somehow stopped working I'd be glad to update or remove it. But it sure worked when I wrote that article, and I don't know why it wouldn't still work today.

Mr. Adanac,

You have posted quite a bit and it is obvious you are having a tough time with the whole P2 upload business. You have also received some good advice, and maybe some that didn't apply to you, and that is the nature of any board. There are a few ways for you to get your P2 files out of your camera, some more reliable than others. I personally gave you a pretty good set of instructions which included using P2CMS, since it seemed you didn't want to use your (older) editor. I'm not sure if you tried that, but I guarantee it works. No one here wants to collect your money, but we will try to help.

If you want to talk to a moderator about a stickie not being correct, you might want to start with Mr. Green, since he is a moderator, and also a founder of this board. He has also written the most detailed and comprehensive books about the HVX200 and HPX170 available and other Panny cams as well. Mr. green is not a Mac guy, but offloading to a mac is well worked out, well documented and reliable. It is done every day by countless videographers. If you are having problems with the process, before you call out a respected member here, you might want to do a little internal search to see if maybe your own workflow has slipped a cog.

It won't cut much ice here to complain about the members who are trying to help you, even if you don't think they are.

thanks very much for answering Mr. Green, I'm still using the P2CMS installed in my Mac for offloading the footage from my HPX170. So far, no problem! Even with the LASTCLIP.txt file missing. I'm going to stick to this process, I just wanted to be completely sure. Now I am. I'm a big fan of DVXuser.com, and altough I'm a junior member, I've been following and finding answers here to every problem I have found ever since I got my DVX100A years ago. I own the DVX book and dvd, the HVX and HPX book, and the Sound and Lighting for film and tv dvd's. It's great to have a community of people that like to share their knowledge and experience to people that are just beginning to work with different equipement, etc.

thanks very much to everyone!

Okay, glad to hear it's working for you!

The lastclip thing is a file that's used to tell the P2 card what the last clip it recorded was, and what the name of the next clip will be. But P2CMS isn't a P2 recorder, so it doesn't create that file, since ... well, it's not exporting files to a P2 card, so there's no need for it.
