large files won't transfer

We're trying to back up P2 media converted to FCP files for archiving purposes and it appears than any files larger than 4Gigs will not transfer.

I believe that this is a limitation on MS DOS formatted drives. But the problem appears also on a Mac formatted drive.

Does anyone have a solution or work-around for this problem?

Thanks.

So you log and transferred the P2 files and are trying to transfer the quicktimes? Do you also have a backup of the original P2 files? You should.

Yes the 4gb transfer limit is a FAT32 (MS-DOS) limitation. You want to format your drive using the Disk Utility/Erase/Mac OS Extended Journaled.

Also what type of drive are you using and what connection? FW800?

Fat 32

Fat 32

Thanks for the info.

Yes... all the P2 media is backed up. The drive is a Western Digital that belongs to the client which he's formatted as FAT 32. I think he wants to access these files via a PC, so that's why the drive is formatted this way.

Is there any work around that you're aware of for this situation?

thanks!
