First: I love love love this forum, deeply. I've been lurking and reading quite a bit and I've already learned more here than I thought I would. Although I get overwhelmed very easily-- breaking into the audio world with all the technology and jargon and science is quite a lot to take in. Thanks for making it digestible
Okay, I've been sitting on this and sleeping on this for a while.
I'm used to Pro Tools. I really enjoy it, I like how it flows, so I'm assuming that this will be the main DAW that I'll be playing in.
Most of my work will be foley, fx, flim/video prod, radio packages, compositions, sound art, etc. I'm just graduating and that's what I've been dabbling in and enjoying. But most of what I'll be doing is sound.
(is there something else out there other than pro tools that's better for this? i know there are more)
For video, I've used and like Final Cut Pro. That would limit me immediately to a Mac (or a hackintosh, but considering the portability of a laptop, mac it is).
I've gone back and forth about laptop and desktop, but overall I think a laptop would be best. That would allow a lot of versatility in work and play, and if I wanted I could record to the laptop rather than a field recorder, etc etc. So that's that lol.
Pro Tools works on a PC. And I have owned and used PCs all my life. Used Macs too on campus, but still.
So I was curious what systems you all use, and what computers you all use. I'm not asking for a Mac vs PC. What I'm asking is what might be best for what I'm choosing to do. I enjoy video editing quite a bit, but I don't think I'd be doing that as much.
Is the Mac worth it? Or should I go for something else?
