Laptop died, need new PC for T2i work and Adobe production suite 5.5

The newer HP laptops can go up to 16gig of ram. I'm not talking about the workstation class ones either.

That gateway does look good but Im not a big fan of gateway. My first pc a few years ago was a gateway. One day it died so I do some Google'in and find out that a ton of other people had the same problem. The motherboard is the part that died and gateway can't replace it or fix it so everyone was basically s.o.l.

Yeah, I had a gateway convertible tablet about 5 years back that was super capable (touchscreen could fold onto itself), had awesome specs for its time (Core 2 duo 2.1, 4GB ram, etc), ran fast and smooth, and was just awesome. But I found the display (at least on mine) to be of poor quality. Which is surprising since it was not just a laptop, but advertised converting into a tablet which is a feature centered around the display. Why would you put a low quality display on such a model?

But anyway, yes, they are very fast and very good performers for the money, but with features like a good display being rather important, I was not so impressed with it for use with video processing. That's just me, maybe someone else has had better experiences with them.

(also doesn't help that a bit of water fell on mine and fried the entire thing instantly. I've had laptops have 18oz cups of coffee spill and still recover)

I bought one of these, cheap and badass. there are dual quads that pop up on occasion for around 600, just keep an eye out.

that's a dual-dual (total 4 cores) with two core2duo E6850 (core 2 technology at 65nm, from 2006) (yes, that xeon and that core2duo are exactly the same, except the xeon can be used in pairs)
it should perform like one core2quad QX6850, which is what I have (as an overclocked Q6600), and works great
but I guess the asus and the gateway would be faster

oh, and on the GPU side: yes, it comes with an nvidia card, but it's the quadro equivalent of a GeForce 7900GTX, and maybe it is too old to accelerate premiere:
