C100: LanPart LANC for Black Magic on C100/C300?

Thanks, you saved me $50.

What alternatives do you recommend?
Are you looking to do this on the cheap? About $5 in parts will do REC/STOP. Tip to base-ring short will trigger S/S function. Your choice of momentary PB. I did this but discovered I needed menu control more than I thought.

Ideally I'd be using a grip extender, but I've read TRRS cables don't work. Or they just give you rec/stop and aperture and a proper cable/grip extender solution is $500+.

Can you guide me through what parts I'd need to build a start/stop? Also, why would a tip to base ring short trigger S/S, but the Lanparte not work? Isn't start/stop universal across LANC controllers?

I don't shoot ENG style much so it's not that important to me, but I would love the functionality. What did you do to get menu functionality ultimately? Bought a grip extender? Menu access isn't that important, but aperture is a bit important. Punch in is very important.

Is it possible to build your own grip extender? It looks like a TRRS cable to me, nothing special, but I have read TRRS doesn't work as the outer wall has two extra rings or an extra ring or some such.

Thanks!

No, it is not all "universal". The LANC standard for communicating functions is but the manufacturer is free to do anything physical and Canon has chosen that route. The Arduino bunch has cracked several different cameras and published those schematics. Those clearly show a difference between some BMCC products and Canon. TRRS vs. TRS, well just look at the OE Canon connector- how many contacts do you see? 4 points of contact. The "standard" only calls for three lines and a TRS or min-DIN hardware.

I spent enough time on this silly task and just threw money at it and bought the (cough) Zacuto part. The socket on the receiver is for crap and takes three guys and bull to push it in to the point of functionality. It does work but, for me, not the first time I tried it.

The manfrotto LANC controllers have been tested to work with the C100. I have one and it offers start/stop and rudimentary AF motor control, something the grip doesn't actually offer. I don't have any of the info on hand but I know there is a page on the Manfrotto website that shows what controller works with what cameras and the functions offered.

Yes, it's documented that certain Manfrotto units should work. Since the OP doesn't mention the budget, $100 or more for simple S/S is low-value IMO. A 3rd party cable and a switch will do the same for 1/90 the cost. On the other side of the coin, $300 to relocate a Canon grip you already paid for is nuts. Good luck, I'm out.

Unless the LANC focusing ability is competitive with a Preston, the other functionality over LANC doesn't interest me. To that extent the switch sounds better.

What part should I buy? If it's $100 for an on/off switch I'll just move my hand or save up for the Zacuto cable.

A simple momentary PB, 2.5mm stereo plug and appropriate cabling will run less than $20. I hesitate to give this link (and I lied when I said I wasn't coming back here) because nothing from Varizoom is going to give "Preston"-like smoothness (anyone here with a RC-V100??) but look at this-
