C100: Lanc cable - alternatives?

this might sound a bit stupid but has it to be a dedicated LANC cable?
I tried to mount a headphone jack extension cable and some of the buttons on the handle worked on my c100.

I am a bit confused... would a phone jack male and female work as a remote cable for a c100?

you're not making much sense... you want to use a headphone extension cable to use your c100's handle, remotely?

the handle doesn't use lanc, it uses a proprietary cable.
 
I guess you're talking about the specialist 3.5mm jack between the body and detachable grip. It's a rather exotic TRRS plus 2 outer rings. A quick Google search doesn't reveal anything - I wonder where Zacuto get plugs and sockets from to make their grip extender?..
