Hi, I like to know the easiest direction to take in order to be able to edit in a labtop after the p2 card is downloaded. I would like to make glossy film looking, music videos. What would be the best pc labtop, accessories and the best software needed to make this happened? I just finished my camera class and I'm buying the hvx 200a in 2wks. All advice is welcomed.

Thank in advance

if you are working with p2 footage. id recommend going with a mac book pro and final cut pro. the p2 workflow on a mac is just sooooo smooth and easy.

you said you just finished camera class, if you're in school for film find out what post production software they use. it would make it easier if you followed that path. but i 2nd the mac/final cut workflow.

last i heard premiere CS3 wasnt fully p2 friendly and you needed a cadre of 3rd party software to make it work... but that was a while ago, so i could be wrong...

you need to download an upgrade for cs3 , which works just fine
CS4 is coming out soon ( end of this month ?), last I heard the support is going to be great.

You can get a Used Macbook with the PCMCIA (P2) slot built in for under $500.00 all day long. I believe the Macbookpro abandoned the PCMCIA.

Vegas with the RAYLIGHT software is an option. And the Avid software is an option...and darn cheap for students too ($300). Only issue with that is that it requires very SPECIFIC hardware, so you might be getting a decent laptop, not a bargain basement one. But you want a decent one.

And Avid reads the MXF files without the need to convert...and it is an industry standard in many fields. Complex, as it is the high end of pro software....but knowing it will get you in many doors.
