Sounds like the bootcamp might be the best thing for ya... but in LA I'm sure someone will help ya out.... Personally, part of the fun is figuring it out on your own too. Not too hard once you get used to it.. and implant the P2 chip into the back of your neck like Panny wanted.. Ahhh, kind of like Doc Oc in Spidey 2...

Good luck and this forum and people are a wealth of info.. and will allow you to save some cash and buy some more toys..

Did you get Barry Green's The HVX Book too? That'll help you get on your feet.

NO its weeks from getting here. and i have to shoot this week. HELP

What do you need help with?

If you ask some specific questions I'm pretty sure you'll get some answers.
You mentioned workflow, what do you have and how do you want to use it?

You should also state what laptop and software you have -- the last thing you want is for someone to learn along with you. I'm not saying that can't be fun, but if you need to get up to speed NOW, then you need someone who knows all the tools you have.

i am about to get a powerbook with a 1 ghz. 30gb. do i need to get p2 genie to help me simplify everything?

Does your powerbook have a PCMCIA slot or is it one of the new ones?
Give us everything you got. Hardware and software. Do you have an NLE? Do you NEED an NLE or do you just want to burn footage to DVDs or what?
What are you going to be using the camera for- SD? HD? Variable frame rates?

PowerBooks have PC Card slots, but MacBook Pros do not.

Also tell us what media drive set up you have and which version of FCP?

it has a PCMIA slot. I am using the powerbook just to unload the card to and then transfer to my G5. I will probably purchase P2GENIE. Will p2 genie create a mxtf folder right away so i can get it into my FINAL CUT 5.04?

thanks

Omar! Ya finally took the plunge! :)

You'll be very happy with your new baby.

If you need me to show you anything, just come on by sometime. Maybe up to Woodland Hills again?

I definately think the P2 Genie will be a good companion for you in your coming workflow. Just getting the media off the cards can be a time-consuming task and P2 Genie will help you with simplifying that whole thing. With that said - I think you might be off to a good start by talking to someone who's worked with the HVX before you decide on what software to buy. Everyone has different needs - and your first task should be to find a flow that suits you best.

I would contact Pansonic sales office in Burbank they may give you a free one hour seminar if you willing to travel to there office in Burbank
