Kineraw Mini S35

Only mono 3,5mm audio in is disappointing me. But you can't have it al.
The rest amazes me. Still want it, even if I have to go back to the zoom for audio.

Funny that they use a nikon grip for a side handle. Why invent the wheel indeed.
Wonder if they adjusted it or you can buy it at you local store and put it on.

I want to sell my FS100 to buy a Kineraw mini but then I'm a month (and week) without camera.

Will use it with a Ninja for events, docu and registrations.
Will use RAW for corporates, commercials, film and TV-serie's.

Besides the bad audio input, a great allround camera.

Dear friends.

The mini is on my desk ready to be tested. Will shoot with it the all next week and post footage at cinema5d when ready.
For those who are planing to connect a Ninja, well, it is not possible. The output from the HDMI port is 720/60. As far as i understand it is technically not possible to send a clean full HD signal with this camera.

Will be wiser in few days and share with you the footage.

Thanks!

Johnnie

Great news that you are going to review it. Always find your reviews very clarifying and relevant.
Wonder what good and bad points you will experience.

To bad about the output. I should read better before shout.
One the webside it's says monitoring 720p. They don't call it output :)

Looks a bit over-sharpened. It kind of has that GH3 look to it. Not sure if it was done in post or not. Maybe a little bit of aliasing if you look at the rigging on the boat.

I am sure that this is beta footage cant wait to see more.

It's what Chinese industry does. Rip off western technology and reverse engineer it. There will be a point where their corporations start inventing new technology and when it gets ripped off outside of China, they will start enforcing international patent law. Until then, it's the Wild West over there.

Even if you've seen Chinese firms ripping off western technology, if you're going to assume that is the case whenever a Chinese firm brings out a new product, well, there's something wrong in your head.

Not every product, but this particular camera? Sorry Charlie, it's a Red knockoff. They have entire city knockoffs. They are really good at it, and it's almost comical. You should watch the 60 Minutes on their Paris.

Or check this out:

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but when it's your product or Intellectual Property and you aren't paid for it, you might feel differently.

If you don't think it happens then what is wrong with your head is it's buried somewhere...either in the sand or someplace else where light doesn't shine.

Yes, Chinese firms copy lots of stuff, but not all of them do so. And in particular, intellectual property? This thing uses a completely different sensor and is recording DNG (the other one, CineForm RAW). What IP are they stealing from RED exactly?

Design is intellectual property. My comments are simply agreeing with earlier posts about this being a Red knockoff. Troll much?

Yeah, it's going to happen.

Back to the thread, I will say that the footage from this camera seems pretty good. The limitations of 16 seconds for 720 100FPS is not terrible. I would be curious to see if they could bump up the image size for a shorter duration, but it's probably a bandwidth issue.

If I were going to spend the money that this camera will cost to build a complete system I would probably buy an FS-700.

This footage is interesting:

I can take "it looks like a RED", although to me it's just another generic black box. Not much injury in that, anyway.
Nothing stolen in terms of stuff that does matter: sensor, codec, processing, etc. Because all of that is basically open.
I won't buy a KineRAW, btw. It's just that I find insulting that kind of broad generalization ("It's what Chinese industry does. Rip off western technology and reverse engineer it.")

Sam,

You must disagree with everyone in this thread that talked about how this camera is a Red knockoff. You can choose to do that if you wish, it's a free country.

Google "Chinese knockoff" see how many pages you get. I'm not going to go into this too much more, there is a no politics policy here. That being said, it really happens, companies steal or duplicate other companies products in hopes of riding the coat tails of their success. If you want to deny it, or you can also choose to do that too.

If you become a film maker and sell movies, you may change your tune about piracy when it's you who is being ripped off.

Samual isn't denying that some Chinese companies have copied some products made by other companies. He's saying that you can't use that stereotype to accuse specific Chinese companies of copying specific products of other companies. You need evidence. So what EXACTLY do you think KineRaw has copied from other companies, and what's your evidence that they copied it?
