hmmm...so the upgrade costs as much as the BMCC 2.5k itself. Is the remote controlled audio recorder included or do you have to send one of those in as well?

It costs $999 to modify a $1995 camera or $1499 to modify a $2995 camera…..
And you have to ship it to China.

I think I will pass and go buy a Gh4 instead…...

Its between the GH4 and A7s for me. Waiting till they hit the wild to see more samples and possible quirks.

I liked the idea of the A7. I am shooting video with a Sony RX10 now. I have a GH2 but the RX10 power zoom is very useful for what I do.
The A7 jello does not look good.
I also have a BMCC MFT but hardly use it.

Why they would sidetrack and put the added effort into getting their own camera working mint is beyond me. How many people will feel comfortable sending their camera to a virtually unknown company some where in China for a mod they have never seen in person. I sure wouldn't

Individual people outside of china may not do it. Distributors in other countries may do the necessary tie-ups with Kinefinity and sell it directly in US. That may entail directly ordering new cameras to be shipped to kinefinity and then getting it shipped back to say US with the modifications and then to customers. So instead of this becoming a B2C it becomes B2B business to business.

Through this modification they are also making a statement to the world that they can do a better job than Black Magic. Once you get access to one such camera, you know that kinefinity is not some unknown entity but one who can do good stuff. That is good marketing and brand building for them.

I'd consider buying one new that came pre-modded, because the whole process of shipping there and back sounds like a waste and a potential for loss or damage.

I suppose you could always get a GH4 or whatever but from every scrap of footage I've seen, the color science on some of the debuting cameras still doesn't match what Blackmagic has done with their cameras. I personally think the GH4 looks pretty bad so none of their specs will ever impress me.

If you're going to shoot with anything Blackmagic you're probably going to spend about $1-2k on top of the price of the body for accessories, so this mod doesn't seem crazy overpriced to me.

This keep getting repeated as if it's some standard for shooting with the BM cameras and it's most definitely not.

We have two BMPCCs rigged with QR plates that go on sticks, dollys, jibs and shoulder mounts just like all our cameras.
Here's exactly how much it costs us to rig a BMPCC more than well enough to produce professionally for an average day shoot - $1375
I added a Contineo cage to each for protection and potential rigging and that brought the cost to $1475.

That's camera, 6 original batteries, 64GB Extreme Pro card, Kinotehnik VF and Contineo custom cage.
I've used exactly this setup in every situation described above on several TV spots and film shoots over the last 3 months and needed nothing else to get perfectly focused, perfectly exposed footage.

Some people are just gear crazy and love to compare shots of their "rigged" cameras like hot rodded cars.
But what people like to look at and show off, and what it actually takes to shoot pro footage are two distinctly different things.

Sure if you want to add a monitor you can, but most working pros already have those.
But again, anyone can go into the field with a well outfitted camera for under $1500 with all they need to shoot.

So the external battery probably negates the possibility of it catching on fire:

But is still has the form factor of a toaster.

Did they fix the Fix Patterned Noise issue as well?

Yeah, I can hardly wait to see their URSA-mod at NAB 2015. ;)

And you'll definitely need this on the swing out LCD. :violin:
