Kids next door - how do you deal?

That's odd how some kids are super loud and others are quiet. My mom said I was freakishly quiet. She wondered if I was dead sometimes. She would come in and I'd start smiling. I'm about to have a kid, and I hope he takes back after his dad. :)

I know LA is a great location for work, but until you have the money maybe you should live elsewhere. Consider some place that you can rent in the country for $600 all utilities paid. If you're going to be Mr. Creative editor but live in close quarters such as you do, I wouldn't complain about the crying/traffic noise/sirens etc. etc. It's part of the deal until you can get enough $$$ for a mansion in Malibu.

Point: isolation cost money in a place like LA.

Possible solution, get a set of Extreme Isolation Headphones

well the good news is that kids grow up so this isn't a permanent thing.
You try to come up with a compromise with the parents in the mean time if you feel it won't cause tension. Like come up with at least a specific one hour every day that the parent promises to keep the kids away from the joining walls of the two apartments and in return you can edit their birthday parties and graduations. You can probably come up with a better comprise but this is to get the ball rolling.

I say to heck with the headphones, get huge speakers and crank them when you're editing.
If you can't beat them, join them.

Noise-cancelling headphones.

Also, if you're paying rent to live somewhere, you *do* have certain rights to "use and enjoyment" of your rental. If the noise is so bad that you cannot work/sleep/whatever, start filing written noise complaints with the landlord. And if that doesn't get action, withold rent (if you reach the point where you're just about ready to move, anyway).
