GH4 KickStarter for Micro 4/3 Cine Prime Lenses

There are plenty of decent primes out there.

But I can't find a single proper, affordable ZOOM lens.

Proper meaning:
1. T2.8 or better at all focal lengths
2. OIS
3. Three rings on the lens. A de-clicked iris ring closest to the lens mount, rotating counter-clockwise to open with at least 180° rotation. A smoothly operating zoom ring in the middle. A manual focus ring farthest from the lens mount with at least 180° of rotation.
4. Inner focus and zoom, no barreling or rotation of the lens housing.
5. Parfocal, and a correctly designed constant aperture showing no visible change in brightness while zooming.

There are plenty of decent primes out there.

...But these are usually still-photo lenses adapted for cine use and not optimized for the M4/3 format, so they tend to produce a poor M4/3 image at full aperture.

Or they are real high performance cine lenses that cost over $10K each, so I am curious to find out how these dedicated M4/3 lenses actually perform.

You can find this lens if you're willing to pay high-end cine prices and are willing to give up on OIS, otherwise you're limited to the lenses that Panasonic offers.

Some notes from the KickStarter's comments section...

- Veydra optical elements all made of fine quality multi coated glass. The barrels are aircraft grade aluminum and the mounts will be plated brass.

- The 16mm, 25mm, 35mm, and 50mm are all the exact same size. The 12mm is as lightly shorter but the iris and focus gears are in the exact same position on each lens for quick lens changes

- These lenses are nearly telecentric so focus breathing or image size change is minimal to non-existent

- Matthew Duclos appeared in our video and was involved in the design specification for these lenses. Duclos lenses will offer these lenses for sale/service but is not involved in the manufacture of these lenses.

I think if your in the M 4/3 environment, these look like an ideal set of primes, placed nicely in the quality / cost convergence.

Some things are said about iris, focus rings, and metal housings --- but what about the glass? They say 4K but what else is told about optical quality? Chromatic aberration, barrel distortion, flare, ghosting, color neutrality, stuff like that?

Also, you can already buy Zeiss CP.2s, Rokinons, and SLR Magic lenses in Micro Four Thirds mounts. I'm happy to see another contender, but why are they talking like this is something new?

Compare the price of a CP.2 with MFT mount to the Veydra. You can get a whole set for the same cost of one CP.2. I dont know of any other lens like these MFT cinema primes other than declicked stills lenses that have gears added gears.
I want to see how well they perform too. Samples are coming next week from what they say on the Kickstarter page.

Trust me. The guys involved behind the project were born with the lenses in both hands. Ryan, Matthew, and Illya know their filed better than anyone else. If you know those names, you know what they are capable of. If they promise something, they will deliver with the best possible quality.

If you guys have any questions regarding the lenses, I would just directly ask them instead of just discussing it here. They will clarify any concerns you have.

Although, I bet Illya will shine in here and probably answer some, if not all questions.

Thanks KMA_WWC.

I've had to keep quiet about this for man than a year, I thought for sure that this was going to get leaked before Kickstarter went live. There were some folks who got an unintentional preview in the Hot Rod Cameras booth at Cine Gear last June. A member of the development team pulled out an early prototype and showed Matt Duclos and I the first 'working' lens. There was a small crowd of strangers who all asked to see it, so I thought for sure all the secret was over, but amazingly everyone kept quiet and here we are finally.

Cashflow and waiting can definitely be an issue, and I know others who just feel uncomfortable going through crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter, so we are doing something a bit different by making the lenses available to pre-order at the same prices as Kickstarter for only a small deposit.

I am also trying to arrange for a lens to be at our office during our Black Friday event next week.

Everyone is welcome to ask me anything about these lenses, and I will do my best to answer.

These lenses look great! I can't wait to see some more test footage.

Perhaps someday you might consider making a "super speed" set?
