Kessler Crane

RE: The sticks

I originally ordered the Kessler Tripod, just to make sure it'd handle the capacity. Eric called me because they were out of stock on the item. So, he recommended any of the 3190-93 series or the 528XB. I was concerned with the load capcity as the crane is 30lbs. the cam is like 5 and you need like 45 lbs to counter.

The 3193 is rated at 44 lb capacity. Anyhow, ended up speaking with Eric directly with the mid-level spreader the capacity doubles. Plus he explained how they rate tripods low to cover their backsides.

I've got the 8 foot kessler crane on a bogen 5066 (I think that's the number) and it works great. My kids like using it as a seasaw. (The fatter kid stays on the shorter end.)

Hey keynstring,

Did you look at other cranes? Did you check out the SkyCrane made in Costa Mesa, CA? If so, what was it about the Kessler that you based your decision on?

I'm in the market for a crane myself. And did you say that you purchased it from EVS?

Thanks.

I have a kessler crane and some of our footage is on the website. The Easyriders events stuff, as well as the commercial. I think that the Kessler crane was one of my best purchases ever.

We shot the Easyriders footage at the Pomona Fairplex. It was jammed with people. I had the crane on its tripod and that was mounted on a 3 wheel tripod dolly. We dollied the length of the fairplex, through the people while shooting. It was awesome footage, but didn't make the commercial.

I looked at a few cranes. I chose Kessler for it's upgradability and load capacity, it can basically take any camera. Also it's construction. As I wrote up top, I wanted a lot of confidence in something i'm flying my cams on.

Hey Maverick thanks for sending those clips to Kessler they really get the point across. The thing to think about in getting a crane is the range of shots you can use it in. It's not just the high sweeping pans but the low ground and tracking shots. In some cases I think it could work in the place of a dolly. No tracks to set up.
