I'm still gearing up on opening my new Videography/Doc business venture.

Big thanks to Tommy at EVS, Eric at Kessler Crane and Todd w/ my new Indiesnap (It works, it's light, it's very nice.)

Question fer y'all, i'm in the South Bay, L.A. area. Would anyone be interested in renting the 12 foot Kessler in the future. Just inquiring. Let me know, PM me, i'm considering it. Just want to share the love.

question, can the head pan left and right, or only the entire crane movement can do that?

You can purchase a Ball Relocator attachment, which I will be, to put a pan/tilt head in the cam basket and work it manually. I'm also getting the Bescor MP101 so I can manipulate it remotely. In the little time i've had to use it so far, you don't need the pan action that much as the entire crane pans. I guess if you want to track something or motion of that nature it'll be helpful.

Nice setup with the Crane. I'm wondering which tripod and head are you using to hold that baby up?

hmmm i'm thinking $150 for a weekend with a $500 deposit (which would be returned after he gets the crane back)

Howdy again fellas, Pm'd TC last night, thinking out loud, i'll do the same here.

This is roughly the same ballpark I was thinking of. I'm trying to figure out the deposit end of the deal. I need to check with a few places for rental policies. Any thoughts on procedure?

Here are the details on the rig itself.

- Kessler 12' foot crane.
- Kessler Fluid Head (You can't manually tilt the camera basket with this head, just pan the entire crane, but it eases your mind re: putting your fluid head under the bad boy. although on the website, www.kesslercrane.com they show a 503 under it.)
- Manfrotto 3193 sticks.
- 45 lbs. counterweight (specific to DVX) (you'd need more weight for heavier camera.)

I also use, but probably won't rent:
- Libec Remote Zoom Control
- Nebtek PanPro 5.8" monitor

I'll be getting soon:
- Manual Kessler brake for the crane
- Bescor MP101 motor ( so you can remotely pan & tilt)

The side story is this was my strange and indulgent purchase of a large startup i'm beginning. I could've gotten some staples with this part of my budget, but I thought I could rent it out and i'd always have the added versatility in my arsenal. Once you set the thing up once, the next time it'll take like ten minutes. Eric Kessler told me they're gearing up to add their 16 foot extension.

If you guys are really interested, email me at keynstring@socal.rr.com. I'll keep in touch and let you know the rates and procedure when I figure it out.

Thanks for the responses.

I bought the 8' version and love it. Smooth movement and solid construction.

The people at Kessler are solid folks.

I love the price point. Did you guys look at the video of them demonstrating the motorized head? That looked awful! Other than that, all of their shots look silky smooth. They should really redo that with a better motor head.

I don't think that there is any footage on there with the Bescor. I think it's actually with the expensive underslung cam basket setup.

Oh you're right, it's the Turret.

The movement wasn't smooth at all. Perhaps the operator just didn't know how to use it.

I have a Kessler myself. For what they are asking, for what you get, its a no brainer. they are making a solid product.

I shopped around. I really wanted at least a 12 footer and you have the 8' and 5.5' options. Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't want to DIY a crane and then fly my 3 grand cam up there.
