Kauai Footage Shot on DVX100a (88MB)

Re: Kauai Footage Shot on DVX100a (88MB)

Hey Todd, really awesome footage! I can't believe the quality! I've been putting off purchasing my DVX but this is motivation to do it now!

One suggestion for you though... it isn't about camera, but the audio and it is something that I've had to work with on some of my productions with voiceovers. You can hear the room tone from the voice-over session, which is a little distracting. I use Adobe Audition which has a great little tool that can sample the background noise and remove it from your audio without affecting the narrator's voice. ProTools can do it as well, not sure about others.

If you don't have any of that you could probably lay down room tone throughout the video and few people would notice it and it wouldn't be obvious when the narrator steps in. Just a thought... great job!!!

Cool. I'm stoked that you guys like it.

It was / is a project where the timing was perfect. If you look at http://www.imagenfilms.com there is a "contest". It seems like a small enough site; nice and covert for a "first contest ever" kind of thing. The timing (before they changed the deadline by two months) was about perfect, as I was leaving for Kauai within days of when I found out about the contest. With only about two weeks with the camera this made the perfect opportunity to learn how to use the thing.

Since going and working on the project I've learned more in two weeks about video than I've learned in the past two years.

Soooooo... I bought Mic's as I know the sound was pretty bad. I will re do it now that the deadline has been moved. I also bought a tripod as it's obviously indispensable. And yes, conclusion would be good huh? I could easily do a 2 hour full length documentary on the islands. Conveying a strong message in 5 minutes sure is tough.

Thanks again you guys, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The feedback will really help me make it better.

By the way: Jarred... thanks for getting me those batteries literally hours before I had to be on the plane.

Not sure if you are looking for edit critiques but, that first shot is waaayy too long. You should have at least 2 or 3 more shots in that length.

I like the footage
