Jvc ls300

I'm sorry...I missed your demonstration.
Where can I see it? It would be interesting to me and many others...

Cheers....Tye

Thanks Franck:

that is what I mean: I usually work with manual focus as well - but talking about eg the 20mm it is nearly impossible to focus "by hand". That is the reason why I like the idea of pulling focus manualy using the zoom lever!

Has anybody tried any B4 ENG lenses or C-Mount lenses in M4/3 or VSM mode?

Very quick video from Japan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfjA2kX3kRY

Hard to judge image quality from this - using the doubler is softer but no surprise there. Also the lens is a very old standard def version so newer lenses 'should' be sharper.
Have to say this camera has got me very interested, think I'll be retiring my AF-102s. Being able to use every lens I own (B4, Super 16, M4/3 & EOS) on one camera to shoot HD as well as being able to step up to 4K make a lot of sense.

Was looking at this camera at Cinegear yesterday. My 1st impression was "man this is small"! Much smaller than say my HPX170. They had a model stationed infront of a Faux brick wall. Overall the image was pretty pleasing, although I did notice some diagonal lines appearing in the brick area. In talking with the staff some upgrades in terms of updates are coming and they are aware of the criticisms here and in other forums. They were not happy at all with some of the earlier video that were produced overseas. They are asking for a shoot out here with a professional DP to show what it can do. In the display they had one unit with the current "free" promotional lens and one next to it with a CP2 on it. You could see the difference (especially in terms of DOF). Staff was very receptive and took the time to discuss where they felt this camera system lies in the market as well as its potential for independent film use. That was a much better experience that Panasonic which really made me feel like I was putting them out by asking questions on the upcoming DVX200. For some of us independents that actually work and make a living shooting, the relationship with the manufacture is something I take in consideration. BTW they are throwing in a 24mm or 35mm or a Metabones adapter in the LS300 deal till September. For the price it was very appealing.

Well said....and quite a few people stopped at our booth to check out the LS 300 too......I think the most common comments were 1) Size - many where happy with the "footprint" and light weight 2) lots of lens possibles 3) They liked the look (both standard & subdued cinema) and said the live look is better than the internet footage they had seen...
We reminded and encouraged them to take advantage of our "Try to Buy" free rental program.....

Hello people. I'm also interested by this cam. Just a question thought. Are m43 lenses the only comatible ones that can be us with this if you need servo zoom & focus (and the push button) ? Are there other than m43 lenses out there that can work that way with this ? I know about some B4 lenses that comes with an attached zoom servo control, but nothing for the focus (unless I'm wrong).

My knowledge is a bit limited with this, so sorry if the question seems a bit stupid.

Thanks to answer

If you are not using Micro4/3 you need an adapter. I think right now they have a free EF or single lens included with the purchase. If your new to the game Canon's EF mount is the most popular lens set. At least by sales numbers. Lots of options out there.

These things are complex. I would say that JVC has produced their own content (sword short) and it was met with a rousing round of indifference. They have made a great package outside of what is most important in the end - an image that moves you. Maybe they can improve this but I wonder about releasing a "digital cinema camera" that does not look very cinema-esque. Surely they know what filmmakers or just general owners of large sensor cameras are interested in? Call me jaded but the proof is always in the final product, internet or on an editing timeline. The idea of "it looks great in the edit bay"... just is not enough as you have to deliver stuff at some point. Other cameras seem to find a way to look great on Vimeo, why should the JVC be excluded?

A lot of people would like to like this camera. I wish I lived near a try and buy program. I would love to try it out. Unless there is someplace in Dallas/Ft. Worth all I can do is judge by what is available.

I hear you there. I view this camera as one that would be good at events, documentary stuff. Sort of a cresent wrench of sorts. Its not a C300II or even a C100II except is price is great and the micro 4/3 mount is so flexable. It does do 4:2:2 which is nice. Im pretty sure when pro's get there hands on it some better footage will come to light.

As far as Texas goes is Texas Media near you? Of course Im sure some of the guys here in the program would send you one if your willing to pay the shipping. Camera needs some others to shoot with it.

TMS is about three hours away. I will keep an open mind and see if there is a dealer in the area. The big issue I have with the JVC are all of the reports of a poor viewfinder. This is a dead stop for me on a 2015 release camera. No excuse to not have an excellent viewfinder on a camera that is going to come anywhere near a professional. If it was not in the initial pricing then that was a big mistake. Add $100 to make the thing as it should be.

I'm one of those that fall into the group of 'wanted to like' this camera....the clips so far with one exception leave me just a little bit chilly...I did see one clip with dogs that had a little something going on...but it was interspersed with cartoonish highlight handling problems....so their might be some hope....but it looks like it might be a tough job wringing out the organic looking stuff!

Cheers...

I only have Nikon lenses and adapters. Any recommandations on some Nikon Lenses ?

Anything wide and fast (<= 2.8) would be a good place to start with their pro level lenses....

very fast question:
there's a way to convert the 422 50mbs files to prores or xdcam
to edit in fcp (not X)?
I shoot a short video, but now i must edit...
I'm testing the camera with m43 lens, and zeiss contax lens.
