Jvc gy-l300

"But I would much rather be without an external recorder/monitor for run-n-gun (on either cam). Really think JVC need to add a histogram, at the very least..."

My sentiments exactly, Andy!

This is why I asked about
JVC's customer service, in an earlier post. Is this something that could be remedied with an update? Look at what Samsung has done with updates to their NX1.

Jim Martin, do you have a line of communication with JVC? It would be great if they were willing to listen to feedback from these threads. Just a thought!

I wouldn't even mention the NX1 as its a consumer DSLR. Thats only goingt to confuse them or make excuses. Its best to mention something like the BMPCC under 1K dollars, MFT, marketed for indie filmmakers, and then later added with a waveform

Yes, I'm in direct contact with the key people and will pass it along......

Not really comparing the LS300 to the NX1 per se
.
I'm trying to point out that Samsung, an electronics company, has made some inroads into the stills and video camera market with some well thought out products.

And, they're not resting on their laurels, they're adding some real upgrades, to boot. This means they are serious about gaining a foothold into these markets.

So, if JVC really wants make a presence in this segment, they would do well to take a page out of Samsung's playbook and swing for the fences.

They have a real opportunity here to win over some new customers, myself included, but not by showing up late to the party with a six pack of warm PBR...

Jim, you've had hands-on with the camera. I'd love to hear your impressions.

LOVE it!.......small, lightweight, and as I had said, the picture is definitely in the Canon/Panasonic direction. Also, got a note from the key JVC engineer (who read this thread) that they will add some type of scope/histogram.....no time frame or details other than their engineers are working like crazy to prepare this camera for release.

I'm loving all I see about this camera. JVC has created the M43 camera I was dreaming! a really nice piece of equipment. I keep refreshing my search in youtube and vimeo waiting to see new footage.

Samsung is definitely copying Panasonic's direction with dslr video. Only thing is their proprietary lenses... adapters and such. Im happy JVC went the MFT route. Seems like everything is so far in the right direction.

That is certainly encouraging news, Jim. I'm so anxious to get your impressions of the sensor's IQ with varying lenses and especially low light performance. That will be a huge determining factor for me. If the sensor performs admirably, this camera may very well be the logical upgrade path from the AF, particularly if Panasonic drops the ball this Spring.

I found this very useful. Here's a reminder: 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 dB, Lo lux(30, 36 dB), AGC

I'm liking how the sensor behaves beyond 15+. I can deal with traditional noise in the shadows, but in non interrupted (non moving) static pixels in the far background the detail still seems to be lit fine. I'm thinking that video posted from vimeo was bogus...

Interesting... That performance is markedly different (in a good way) from the other, horrible low light sample.

in a real studio I can't see going beyond 9db. Assuming boosts are consistent 400, 800, 1600. I'd like to know the official base. At any rate for studio use I think this is great as everything will be lit. For 15db+ max imo is non pro, unless for docu work, reality tv, etc... in general I don't see the general viewer caring nor noticing which is good for all working professionals pitching new programs to producers. there's so much global content in so many countries wishing for the american or ENG standard, realistically most new 2015 cameras from Full HD + are blessings for 3rd world camera upgrades.

The C100 MkII is a mighty fine camera (I've had the original C100 since it was launched). Reason I'm not upgrading to it is.

1. No 4K capability (yes I now the sensor is 4K but it down converts to lovely sharp Full HD in camera). I will only buy 4K capable cameras from this point onwards.
2. Canon still resisted putting a decent 4.2.2 / 50Mbps "broadcast friendly" 1080p codec in there - come on Canon, this is 2015 so what's all this AVCHD nonsense...

Of course, what is important to me may not be important to you - but the JVC ticks both those boxes...As soon as NAB is over I can then decide my next move!

I'm with Andy. I shoot mostly wedding and event, BUT, I can't see paying $5500 for a camera with behind tech. Although I do want an AF camera.

I really really want to like this camera for its features and price range make it an awesome tool for the type of documentaries i shoot, but the video look at least when compared to the image of the BMCC is a bit deterring.

No, it's not a "video look".....you are commenting on internet footage. I have the camera with me now and trust me, looks quite cinematic when we look at the 46" TV Logic monitor live....we will be shooting with it this weekend and then getting the footage ready for the LA Debut here on March 18th.

Your right but color science plays a huge role as well. Regardless, I can't wait for it to come out so we can see what others can do with it. I am excited for a polished release.
